Sometimes, less is more.
It's hard to believe there are just two guys making all that noise, but it's true. Wearing their power-pop influences on their sleeves, ALL RIGHT TOKYO blends the wall-of-guitar sonic impact of Weezer with the musical craftiness of classic Cheap Trick. The lineup may look like the White Stripes, but guitarist Brandon Trenz and drummer Rick Browarski have more in common with Local H, using clever guitar modifications to deliver two distinct sounds--guitar and bass--from a single instrument. The result: big rock 'n roll that sounds like it should be coming from a band twice their size.
Longtime friends, Brandon and Rick formed ALL RIGHT TOKYO in 2002, and have been burning up stages ever since. Like Lennon and McCartney, these two bring together very different writing styles to craft unique power-pop compositions: Brandon, a screenwriter, creates character-based mini-sagas of love, loss and longing; Rick, a music school grad and guitarist by nature, presents slice-of-life inspections and introspections that are both uniquely personal and universally resonant. Together, these complementary approaches produce a whole that is much more than the sum of its parts.
In addition to their infectious original tunes, ALL RIGHT TOKYO has built a reputation as ingenious cover artists--from their inside-out version of KISS's "Beth" to their power-punk take on ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky" to their everything-but-the-kitchen-sink execution of Prince's Purple Rain (thats right--they perform the whole damn album), you never know what musical rabbits these guys are going to pull out of their hat.
If you like what you hear, you can also check out Rick's other band, Longneck Strangler, and Brandon's other band, the Callbacks.
