| About Allsar Quartet |
|
Praised by Steve Smith for its "ingenious" programming and "compelling unanimity of gesture," The Allsar Quartet has been playing concerts together since 2005. The quartet formed for a premiere of a work by young American composer Mario Diaz de Leon at the legendary New York performance space Roulette, and has since devoted itself to exploring the classical repertoire as well as new music. The quartet has worked closely with Columbia Composers, has performed at experimental venues such as Issue Project Room, and holds an ongoing residency with “Hearing the Sacred,” the free concert series of the Museum of Biblical Art in New York. At MOBIA the quartet has played standard works like Beethoven’s Op. 132, lesser-known pieces by composers such as Ben Johnston, Gyorgy Kurtag, and Osvaldo Golijov, and has also commissioned music with the support of the Museum. This year the quartet’s projects include a collaboration with Serial Underground, the new music variety show at the Cornelia Street Café.
