Books
America - ER Frank, The Giver - Lois Lowry, Storky - DL Garfinkle, To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee, Stop Pretending - Sonya Sones, Skellig- David Almond, The City of Ember/People of Sparks - Jeanne Duprau, Geography Club - Brent Hartinger - Speak Laurie Halse Anderson. About me: I'm a writer, an author actually. Yes, I know, kind of hard to believe but true. I write mostly young adult novels but do write mid-grades, picture books, poetry, short stories and articles as well. I'm also the ARA for the Canadian East region of the SCBWI so writing tends to be a big part of my life right now - that and my family which is and always will be a bigger part of my life. WALKING ON GLASS
A 16 year old boy's mother's attempted suicide has
left her brain-dead and hooked up to life support. He
struggles with the hardest decision of his life. He
knows she wouldn't want to live this way but if he
unhooks her life support is that murder or mercy?
In the Garage
Truth and rumour, fantasy and reality, love and prejudice.
Barbara Jean (BJ) Belanger has always suffered from low self-esteem: she has a portwine birthmark on her face, she feels overweight, and has repeatedly suffered the taunts of others her age for which she is a natural target, a victim. One of the very few who have treated her with respect, understanding and affection is Alex, who becomes her best friend. When the need for acceptance for both teens leads one to betray the other it leads to disaster.
Very quickly, BJ''s life is turned upside down in a terrible moment in which the meanness of the world proves too much to bear.
Alma Fullerton brings fresh twists to the meaning of love and betrayal in her uncompromising portrayal of two lonely souls whose profound regard for each other isn''t enough to save their friendship.

“It helps, I think, to consider ourselves on a very long journey: the main thing is to keep to the faith, to endure, to help each other when we stumble or tire, to weep and press on.”-Mary Caroline Richards
“Bipolar disorder has taken a significant toll on our family, and living with bipolar can be very challenging, but life can also be happy and fulfilling.” –Diane Mariant
'City Smells' is a new literary project set up by the Edit Red Writing Community.
We are running three writing competitions, Flash Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction and Poetry, all with the theme 'City Smells. The winners of each of these competitions will win $100. But more than this, we will take the best work from each competition and compile a paperback 'City Smells' anthology. The writers who make it into the 'City Smells' anthology will each receive free copies of the book and be paid a royalty in book sales.
To submit to these competition and stand a chance of being published in the 'City Smells' book you must be a member of Edit Red, as the submission process is automated. Joining Edit Red and entering these competitions is 100% free. If you make it into the book, we will pay royalties based on book sales.
Edit Red has existed for many years and was created and is still managed today by non-fiction author Alan Emmins, creative writing teacher Chris Lee Ramsden and literary reviewer Sean Merrigan.
If you are not already a member, we hope you will join and take part in this great literary event. Sign up here for free!
My wife Diane and I, like all of you are deeply saddened by the recent college tragedy. We offer our condolences to those who lost loved ones. This is a very sad day for the world.
We would love to know how you feel about the tragedy, in a constructive and healthy way. Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. Please leave a comment or pass our Myspace on to a friend. Diane and I come into contact with a vast array of media, health care and government professionals, university administration, doctors, therapists and people in general who are just like you and me. Your voice really matters to us…

“We have lived and loved together Through many changing years;
We have shared each other’s gladness, And wept each other’s tears.”
—Charles Jefferys
LEGACY OF PROMISE
My thoughts travel, journeying beyond this page
Children of my youth, grandchildren beyond my age
My heart is weeping, for the struggling of your day
Threatening bipolar, a family burden from yesterday
Bipolar Disorder, how frightful it may be
Your destiny my children, how will you see?
Darkness and heart break, a great burden and plight
Follow me my children, I can teach you to fight
Leading you and guiding you, along the bipolar way
Seeing with new eyes, while finding a new and better day
Fighting the bipolar battle, that I continue to fight
I have exposed bipolar’s power, while reducing its might
So do not be ashamed, and do not be afraid
Fighting for you, your right of passage has been paid
Continue the fighting, discovering who you are
You are not your past, you are a shining star
Seeking the faith, that dwells inside
Discovering triumph, with God we abide
We are not the illness, and we are not to blame
We are a priceless creation, made in God’s name

"Hope is the patent medicine for disease, disaster, sin."
-- Wallace Rice
"Over the years, I have come to realize that I owe my bipolar survival in a large part to my Christian faith. Faith in God is not easy and at times is very difficult for me but what choice do I have? I honestly do not believe I would be alive today if it were not for my personal faith in God. When things have been at their bleakest, I have always been able to turn to God for hope, although sometimes there has only been a flicker. This hope comes from the comfort I take from knowing deep down that there is a God, a God who is watching over me, taking care of me, loves me and forgives me. This is a perspective I choose to live by. My faith in God is my choice and my greatest survival strategy of all. It is both spiritual, practical and life saving.
My intent is not to push my faith on anyone else, but simply to tell my story honestly and completely. "
Easter is the celebration of Jesus Christ conquering sin and death by rising from the dead; I am certain that I am alive because of Him... And for this reason I join in the celebration....
