   About Al Mitchell

Al Mitchell is a Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist from Paisley, Scotland who writes, produces and releases his own music. He currently plays live regularly as an acoustic solo act.

His style has been described as "a cross between Jack Johnson and Bob Marley"(Dr Alex Payne).

He has been involved with various bands and musicians for over 20 years including: Splash (playing in front of 5000 people), Baby Junkworm (appeared on STV programme NB), Capone and the Bullets (Glasgow Ska band), Moon (2 albums & live performances on CBBC & STV), Ally Kerr (Bass on Off the radar album, live 2003-2008).

Al has written and produced music that has been featured on TV programmes in the UK such as CBBC Saturday Show, Scottish Television music programme Nochd Gun Chadal, and worldwide exposure on MTV show Real World. His productions have been heard on radio stations in over 30 countries around the globe.

Al released his long overdue debut solo album 'Crackerjack' in November 2008, quickly gaining radio airplay, rave reviews in the music press and offers of license contracts in America. Foolish man made it to Number 1 on an internet music chart and has been played on a radio stations as far afield as Russia.

Al is busy working on his second album and plans to release it late 2009.

Is this music? magazine wrote:

Another mountain of Is This Music? album and single reviews, another press release which proudly trumpets the debut solo release from another ex-member of another band that possibly no-one outside of their home city has ever heard of. Difference is, this album is really quite stunning. Al Mitchell, a boy wonder with a guitar and a simple, pure vision to match. And his songs are beautiful. Rather than brazenly prostitute himself by releasing singles and so forth, he has chosen to go down the Moby route – he’s in talks with several companies about licensing. This album, according to the suitably understated press release, was three years in the making, Mitchell working as a music and IT instructor at Paisley’s Kibble centre and offering therapy and counselling to boys “he feels he can understand.” One wonders how many times he played this album to them? It certainly has had that effect on these ears. Every strum of the guitar seems to caress the heartstrings and soothe one’s fevered mind – definitely a welcome quality in these troubled times. Mitchell also has a pure and plaintive voice that goes directly into your head and refuses to leave. Like all such records in this vein, there is a very personal and haunting quality to these songs. Not in a doom and gloom sense but in the sense that this record will soundtrack your life and be there for you when you need it. Think of King Creosote or Travis and you’re not far off the mark. Mitchell also manages to deftly sidestep the trap of many a wannabe troubadour in that there are many different flavours to taunt the taste buds. This isn’t just another album full of hollow heartbroken encounters which probably never happened in the first place. This is a personal record about personal stuff – wonderful!
