In the current landscape of rock-n-roll retardation one can grow weary in trying to find the genuine article. A band with innovation and substance both lyrically and musically. One that captures the whole of the human experience. Mind, body and spirit. That band is Almost May.
Hailing from Los Angeles California, this foursome is led by guitarist and singer/songwriter Stephen Zaccone. A rock mastermind in his own right. He has toured the United states and abroad and has been sharpening his skills as a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and live performer for the better part of two decades. He has shared the stage with the likes of Incubus, Henry Rollins, Nickelback, Ben Folds, Chris Whitley and King's X. Zaccone began as a drummer at the age of 9 and got his hands on his first guitar when he was sixteen. He then began songwriting and recording demo's by the end of high school in northern N.J. After graduating he moved to Nashville TN. There he made a name for himself with several original bands including the hard rock unit SERE. Garnering much press, radio support and playing to capacity crowds at Nashville's premier live music venues. After a five year stint in the south he decided to head west
for a much needed new start.
Moving to Los Angeles in the winter of 2004 was a refreshing change for SERE. They did well at all the usual hot spots in town. Playing the Viper Room, The Whiskey a go-go and the Roxy Theatre. In the spring of 2007 Zaccone made another change. He ditched the SERE moniker and went with "Almost May". The new name among other things removed any preconceived notions that this band was simply hard rock. Almost May have their feet planted in heavy grooves and driving guitars. However, their diverse approach of falsetto vocals, tracks laced with moody production and strong spiritual overtones puts them in a category all of their own. The music is anything but predictable. First they will hit you with a hard rockin 1-2 punch, then lift your head into a cloud of hooky melodies while enveloping you in a blanket of ethereal bliss.
Harnessing all of his ability’s, Zaccone wrote, performed, mixed and produced his latest installment entitled "The Breaking." It's an 11 song gut wrenching journey in which the writer takes a stab at chipping away the firmament. A quest for truth through passion, sacrifice, suffering and redemption. The Breaking is an album which encapsulates all of these through a fearless transparency. Zaccone has an insatiable appetite for having a spiritual and intellectual exposé through the sonic portal in which he creates. Enter at will.
