One of the world's great tabla players, Aloke Dutta received his training first from his father Anadinath Dutta and then from Shankar Ghosh and Jnan Prakash Ghosh, each of whom interpreted tabla music differently. These three streams combined with Aloke's talent, precise thinking, and intense practice to create a tabla player of exceptional accomplishment. In 1976 and 1982, Aloke received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music. From 1976 to 1984, he taught tabla music at Viswa Bharati and Rabindra Bharati universities..... He began performing in 1974, both as an accompanist to many famous musicians and also as a solo artist in India, Europe, Japan and North America. Since 1990, Aloke has devoted himself exclusively to the development and promotion of pure tabla music, an art form that, he believes, is one of the most expressive and powerful in the world. Encompassing the complexity of traditional, classical Indian rhythms and contemporary ideas, his tabla music is unique and emotionally charged. Aloke has produced CDs, video and books on tabla, all of which are highly acclaimed by students and drummers from all over the world..... ..comments:.... .... "...Dutta stunned the crowd with his astounding tabla technique." .. --- Modern Drummer .... .... "... I Know Sri Aloke Dutta as one of the very few outstanding young tabla players of our country." .. --- Nikhil Banerjee .... .... "...Clear sounds, complex movement and bayan modulation were the specialty of his playing.".. --- Dainik Jagaran (Lucknow, India) .... .... "...and on Saturday last the Nun's Island Arts Center was transformed into a little Delhi. The renowned tabla player Aloke Dutta was accompanied on the sitar...and the audience was treated to an evening of Indian delight.".. --- Galway Gazette (Galway, Ireland) .... .... "...Dutta took the tablas to the moon and back. The extremely rapid final section of his performance took the audience with him.".. --- Albuquerque Journal.. -
