About me: Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for community, technical, and junior colleges. Alpha Gamma Pi is the local chapter at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas.
Phi Theta Kappa was founded in 1918 to give prestigious recognition to two year college students with excellent scholarship and character. Phi Theta Kappa was founded on a commitment to provide enrichment in four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. Since its inception, the society has grown from a handful of chapters in Missouri to almost 1,200 chapters and 120 alumni chapters in all 50 states and abroad. Texas has approximately eighty chapters in its region. The Alpha Gamma Pi chapter of Austin Community College is located in District V of Texas in Division II of the United States.
Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages scholarship among students enrolled in community and junior colleges. It provides opportunities for the development of leadership, college and community service, intellectual exchange of ideas, and stimulation for academic excellence through its activities and projects.
Some of these projects are: Creative writing contests, teacher excellence awards, fundraisers, blood drives, food and clothing drives, scholarships, mentoring, Adopt-A-School, and Phi Theta Kappa conventions.
