I also follow politics nowadays, not that I like politics, but it's important to pay attention, though I've discovered that they'd do some nasty things even if you are watching them carefully. I'm active on the www.newshounds.us site, monitoring the propaganda network known as Fox News.

See http://www.last.fm/user/Alphaks for details on my listened habits in the last year and a half. I prefer Power Metal bands, hard and heavy, with great singers. Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Queensryche, Kamelot, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, etc. I have a first generation iPod.
Movies
Lord of the Rings, the original Star Wars trilogy, Excalibur, the first Matrix movie. For comedy, there's the Shrek movies, The Princess Bride, old Mel Brooks movies like Blazing Saddles.
Television
I watch very little TV these days, can go a week or more without it. But there is the new Doctor Who series on the Sci-Fi channel, and I sometime catch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Historically, I consider Babylon 5 and Firefly among the best shows ever made. Red Dwarf was great, too.
Books
Tolkien's books, the Wheel of Time series(long!), been getting back into the Sword of Truth series. And of course the Harry Potter books are good for all ages.
