ALTERA VERITAS

Bio:

The chamber ensemble ALTERA VERITAS (‘the other truth’ from Latin language) was founded in 1999, with the specific aim to perform contemporary music written for non-traditional instruments ensemble: the kokle (Latvian antique and traditional folk instrument), the flute and the accordion. In co-operation with best Latvian and several foreign composers the ensemble has prepared a lot of original music programs during the last years. These programs have been performed in solo recitals of ALTERA VERITAS in Latvia, in international festivals and symposiums as well as in Latvian National Radio, there have been special performances realized in the castle of the Latvian State’s President, Latvian State TV and various cultural events in Riga. ALTERA VERITAS was nominated by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for representing Latvia at the festive events of celebration of EU enlargement in Portugal, Lisabon and Porto, for participation at several international festivals in Baltics and Europe. ALTERA VERITAS is awarded with the highest music prize in Latvia – the Great Music Award 2004 - for their bright and creative interpretations of Latvian contemporary music and stimulation of Latvian composers. Annually only the most distinguished achievements in Latvian musical life are marked with this special and significant award for Latvia. Toured Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Estonia, Lithuania etc.
