A Dan Griffiths Music Photography Exhibition at
The Boileroom, Guildford from
1st March - 1st April 2008
From 1st March 2008, The Boileroom in Guildford will host an exciting exhibition of music photography by emerging artist, Dan Griffiths.
Although born in London Paddington in 1983 Griffiths relocated to Guildford at the age of four where he grew up with his family and attended the local school, Guildford County. At the age of sixteen he, like many teenagers, developed a love for music and as a result traveled to the Aldershot Westend Centre to see up and coming bands and local talent. It was at this period that he decided to couple his love for music with still imagery and began photographing the bands.
After buying a cheap film camera Griffiths shot his first local bands at the Westend Centre (on 19/05/2001): headliners Hundred Reasons and their support band who were soon-to-be (Godalming) college friend Guy Davis' band Angel, who later became Reuben. From there whenever Reuben played in both Aldershot and in London, Griffiths would attend the shows to document them with his camera. His photographs were featured on the artwork to two of their singles 'Let's Stop Hanging Out', released on local label Bad Music and 'Stuck In My Throat' which was released through Xtra Mile Recordings (My Vitriol, Frank Turner, DARTZ!...) whom Griffiths now works for as an A+R scout. In his early career one of Griffiths' images of local act Vex Red (Virgin records) was chosen by the worlds largest amplification company Marshall Amps to feature in their national catalogue.
Since then Griffiths has moved back to London and built up a formidable portfolio of work that has been featured in leading national publications such as The Independent, Kerrang!, The Evening Standard and Rock Sound magazine. This exhibition showcases Griffiths' range of work from his early days of photographing local bands to his move to London and includes stunning shots of many of today’s most exciting artists including The Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Paul Weller and many more.
‘Music: Through The Lens’ will first appear in The Boileroom in Guildford, a venue which was absent and badly needed to nurture musical talent in Guildford during his childhood and is planned to move to London thereafter.
