Meet yer DJs:..
DJ Barry - Barry’s been a pioneer on the alternative club circuit locally in Scotland and world wide since 1989. His first residency was in 'The Venue' (the original Glasgow Rock Club), around 20 years ago, closely followed by the Videodrome with Robert Fields. He then started a wee club night called 'The Cathouse' in Hollywood Studios on Brown Street with Michele Pagliocca and Donald Macleod, that grew up to become the biggest rock club in Glasgow. During this time, Barry experimented with other club nights which included amongst others: Sound Clinic (Industrial) with Roddy Hunter (now a world famous performance artiste) and Stuart Buchanan. Sound Clinic morphed into Transnational and then evolved into the world famous Room213. Planet Earth, which was Glasgow’s first 80s night in the early to late 90s and an.R.K, a punk/ska dedicated club night.
BUT, that was then and this is now. He is now co-owner of the Classic Grand venue along with business partners Forbes Manson and Luigi Aseni. The Classic Grand is now the biggest alternative club in Scotland and the only dedicated alternative club in Glasgow.
Barry’s focussed on expanding the choice for alternative clubbing in Glasgow by introducing AltNation Club, which originated in Bamboo and recently moved to the Classic Grand (Thursdays), DamnatioN (Fridays) & AbsolutioN (Saturdays) in the Classic Grand. His approach to DJ’ing has always incorporated the most advanced DJ technology. Currently Barry can be seen using digital hardware and software, bringing alternative DJ’ing into the new millennium. Dec - Dec started out DJing playing his parents records on their old turntables. His folks used to organise underground club nights in Glasgow, which was his first exposure to the club scene. When he was 14, he sent in a mix to The Cathouse and this got his foot in the door. From then, he began DJing at the under 18s night, under the tutelage of our very own Barry Douglas and alongside current partner in crime, Lewis Holleran. As he came of age, he was offered more shifts around the city, most notably starting up the Garage Monday Rock Night.
Obvious to his skills and talent, we approached Dec in the autumn of 2007 about a new night in Glasgow starting in Bamboo. This was an opportunity for him to branch out into the non rock side of things, which he was eager to get on board with. Not long after that, Absolution and Damnation started leading to Dec's residency at the Classic Grand. His biggest influences are old school disco DJs, such as Grandmaster Flash and Larry Levan, because they knew how to make people dance and weren't afraid to switch the styles up. When it comes to his own personal music tastes, it's cliche to say "I love all music", but we think he really does. For more info, you can check out
