I'm still missing John Peel terribly, but I'm happy that Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Rob DaBank are keeping the flame alive at BBC Radio 1. Everyone at WOXY deserves an absolute round of applause, not to mention my thanks for letting me be one of the folks that filled in the gap between the demise of their station and the start of their website. Let's not forget the guiding beacons of 1979's WPIX (the New 102, from Elvis to Elvis), WLIR/WDRE, WFMU, WFDU and WPRB.
And I must, of course, mention the people that got me in this in the first place: Tony Dell'Olio, Steve Maffei and Matt Pinfield at WRSU, and after Matt and I went to WHTG, our fearless leaders Rich Robinson, Mike Marrone, Chopper and Michael Butscher. That's what got this whole ball rolling.
As for keeping it rolling...you, reading this, qualify as a hero. It was your many words of encouragement that led me to restart it after I thought all hope was lost.
I've cobbled together Altrok Radio from trends I've spotted surfing through some of the Earth's best Alternative stations. Perhaps I've got some of the answers you're looking for...or a way of finding them you've never tried. Your call.

Altrok Radio is an alternative rock web radio station, updated every day, that'll make you happy. Click here to start listening, or for more info, read on...
Why Did We Create Altrok Radio?
We (that is, myself and all the folks who've contributed their time and talent to Altrok Radio) finally figured out what's wrong with today's Alternative Rock radio:
Everything.
So we thought up Altrok Radio. We thought it'd be better if our station played new music from any scene that matters, as well as classics from the bands that Alternative radio forgot.
We respect artists that don't compromise, and stick with artists that never did.
When we go out of our way to find new music that matters, we rely on twenty-five years of real Alternative radio experience (during which we helped build one of the best bona-fide Alternative stations in the country) to help you make sense of it.
And we play it for you, twenty-four hours a day, in playlists we update every day, on our web radio station. All because we think, among the music we know you'll like, you'll want to hear something new that you might like.
Plus we do a quick national headline update every half hour on weekday mornings - because we want you to be informed, too..
Enjoy the ride.
On a recent day, we played these artists...
Adam and the Ants, Alphaville, The Apples In Stereo, The Arcade Fire, The B-52's, Babyshambles, The Bambinos, Be Your Own Pet, Beck, The Bent Moustache, Andrew Bird, The Bird & The Bee, The Blacks, Blisstique, Bloc Party, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Breeders, British Sea Power, Broken Records, Carbon-Silicon, Chin Up Chin Up, The Clash, The Courteeners, The Cure, Justin Currie, Dalek I Love You, Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists, Pat DiNizio, Dive Index, Does It Offend You Yeah, Dolby's Cube, Dramarama,

Team, Guillemots, Hadouken!, Headlights, Heaven 17, The Hoodoo Gurus, Hot Chip, The Icicle Works, Islands, Joe Jackson, The Killers, The Kinks, The LK, Lemonheads, Lima Research Society, Lismore, The Long Blondes, Los Campesinos!, Louis XIV, Lowlife, The Mae-Shi, The Magic Numbers, Ida Maria, The Mary Onettes, Midnight Juggernauts, Morrissey, Mr. Hudson & The Library, My Device, Mystery Jets, Naked Eyes, The Never, New Order, Thao Nguyen and the Get Down Stay Down, Nine Inch Nails, Pete And The Pirates, Plastiscines, Plugs, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Presets, Put The Rifle Down, R.E.M., The Rapture, The Raveonettes, Red Cavalry, Red Vein, Satellite-State, Tim Scott, The Screaming Blue Messiahs, Sexbeat, Shocking Pinks, The Specials, Squeeze, Stuffy & The Fuses, Sunshine, Talking Heads, Teenage Fanclub, That Petrol Emotion, The Thrills, The Ting Tings, To My Boy, Tokyo Police Club, Trembling Blue Stars, Twisted Wheel, U2, Uh Huh Her, Violens, Voxhaul Broadcast, What Made Milwaukee Famous, The Whip, White Town, The World Record, XX Teens, Xiu Xiu, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

A Special Note: Altrok Radio is a fully licensed Internet radio station. This means we pay money to keep our station in full compliance with current royalty policies as required by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and the SoundExchange license required by the CARP recommendations made necessary by the DMCA.
That's a lot of acronyms, but the upshot is that we pay a larger share of royalties on the music we play than any other outlet. We do it because we believe in the artists we play and feel they should be compensated fairly for their efforts.
We do not, however, think it's fair that we, at a far lower (and in fact relatively non-existent) level of income, pay more per song played than standard radio does - a state of affairs that fully highlights the fact that major labels and terrestrial broadcasters have colluded to try to make Internet radio disappear.
We are completely in support of any effort that attempts to fix this rather obviously discriminatory practice.
Who I'd like to meet: People who like to listen to good music
Adventurous music listeners who noticed all of the above about Alternative radio, and who want to hear challenging music that doesn't evaporate the moment after you've heard it.
If you're evangelistic about your tastes, even better - the more people know about Altrok Radio, the more of a chance it has to survive. Let everyone know!
People who like to write about good music
If you like to write about music, let me know - Altrok puts up a new Rant whenever there's a reason to put one up. Check the Altrok website for the rants we've aired in the past. You'll be in good company.

Labor Day Weekend in Central Jersey New Brunswick,MELO-DRAMA Body: FROM DJ IRON MIKE So you don't want to go to the extremely crowded Jersey shore this weekend? Good ! Because I will be spinning at 3 different locales this weekend :
First off on Thursday Aug 28 catch me and DJ Drew at Theo's Lakeside Tavern on Main St in Hightstown, NJ for their 5th annual pig roast. WPST and the Coors Light Girls will be there and the whole party starts at 5pm.
If your not into the whole pig on an open flame idea, Saturday Aug 30 Drew and I will be doing our weekly thang at the Corner Tavern in New Brunswick where the beer is always flowin and the tunes and beatz are non stop. That usually gets underway around 10 pm or so.
Finally to round out this weekend - The Big Thing - Yes - The Melody Reunion version 2 will once again be at the Court Tavern on Sunday Aug 31 - Last year's reunion (the one at the Court that is) was jam packed and just amazing - We are expecting another massive turnout and besides myself and Drew, we have a plethora of DJ's from the Melody past including our long time pal Rusty who we managed to somehow pull away from his busy schedule to drop some of that Melody past we just love. 2 floors and about 10 dj's starting around 9pm will make for a memorable nite.
Hope you can find time to make it to one or more of these events this weekend.
If I can only promise 1 thing, at least you will hear good music !
I've got a rarity for you, let me know if you've already beaten me to it (I bet you have!): Maurice & The Cliches--Soft Core. Heard it the other day on XM Fred; heard it exactly *once* in my life, but I remembered it the second I heard certain lyrics. Yay!
Have a great week! (and I hope I hear the Buzzcocks while I'm listening tonight, LOL)
