5 things you need to know about ALVA LEIGH:1. Alva Leigh is her given name (yes, like Thomas Alva Edison), but if you see her on the street, she'll probably answer to "Allie."2. She's from Mississippi, and sometimes that matters in her music, sometimes it doesn't. She's from the Coast, so she lost most of her stuff in Katrina. Again, sometimes that matters and sometimes it doesn't.3. Her instrument is the piano because she grew up playing it, not because it "speaks" to her or anything. Sometimes she even picks up a guitar, though only marginally knowing what to do with it.4. For the past two years, she's been working with producer John Mark Painter of Fleming & John. They have been listening to everything from Donovan to old Liz Phair to Stereolab. She thinks she's come up with some good pop songs for her debut album.5. People seem to really like her voice.
