Alvin Jones got his start in broadcasting in high school by doing the morning announcements during homeroom. He learned how to use the antiquated old PA system to play music to start the day instead of using those darn bells - you know "ding, dong, ding, dong." The next thing Alvin did was to figure out how to get music in the lunch rooms during lunch.
With diploma in hand, it was on to Howard Univeristy, aka "The Mecca." By September 1977, he was on the air at WHBC-AM, the campus station. In 1978, Alvin joined WHUR-FM 96.3. In 1979, he became the host of "The Weekend Quiet Storm" and fill in host for "Quiet Storm" creator Melvin Lindsey.
Jeff Lee, VP of Network Operations of Black Entertainment Television (BET) offered Alvin a proposition that would change his life. Jeff offered Alvin an opportunity to host a music video show on BET. "Video Vibrations" aired October 1, 1984. That was the day that BET went from 8 hours a day 24 hours a day.
During his tenure at BET Alvin along with Donnie Simpson, Robin Breedon, Sheila Banks, and Sherry Carter were the personalities that brought Black music videos in America's homes. Bill Speed, Jeff Newman, Jamie Foster Brown, Annette Donfor and Verna Dickerson were the producers who along with Alvin worked behind the scenes day and night to make sure the audience was always excited.
Alvin's repertoire expanded and he became host and producer of "Midnight Love", "Softnotes", and producer of "Rap City.'
1991 marked Alvin's departure of BET to take his company, Aye Jay Productions fulltime. In addition to Aye Jay Productions Alvin now has The Alvin Jones Communications Group.
January 2003 Alvin made another trailblazing move and joined XM Satellite Radio. But this time instead of music which Alvin had developed a reputation for it was talk. Talk radio was a burning passion that developed in the late 1980's. "The Power" gave him the opportunity to live his dormant dream. His show "T.M.I, Too Much Information," airs Monday - Sunday 12midnight (eastern) 9 pm (pacific) on XM channel 169 "The Power."
我想認識: People who have a zest for life. Who know nothing is guaranteed but are willing to take a chance anyway. People who are successful because they did not give up, give in but gave more.
I want to meet people who have a story not a theory!
Show me a people who has gone through HELL and can smile and I'll show you a person who is going to HEAVEN with that same smile.
Every 100 years, as the earth is reborn, a Pink Moon can be seen across the horizon as the green flowers begin to bloom. Illuminating the night sky, it almost appears as if the Sun has taken it's place for one evening. Though many have heard the stories of the Pink Moon, very few have had the opportunity to witness the magic with their own eyes. An event one hundred years in the making, whispered about by many but presented to only a chosen few. Those who ignite the night sky with a glow both powerful and pristine, it is in their honor, we celebrate. Your finest attire is requested. 21+
AJ!! Sorry to hear about your great creation Rap City getting cancelled. It had a great run...but I guess all good things must come to an end! Whats new with you? How is C-SPAN treating ya?
It has been non-stop on my end. We have been doing the headless chicken dance for too long -- but just stopping to breathe and check in to see if all is well.
Still gotta do lunch! The O-Room perhaps? No, make it Ben’s Chili Bowl!
