Al Vorse is a versatile bassist who wants to make creative excitng music and play as much as possible.
I began playing electric bass at the insistence of my high school band director, and after hearing "Tom Sawyer" by Rush and "Long Distance Runaround" by Yes back to back. I played in a number of high school cover bands and then attended Normandale Community College where I took theory classes in 1992. I then lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for two years where I mostly just practiced. I moved back to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1995 and have have studied privately with such players as Anthony Cox, Jim Anton, Ron Evaniuk and Chris Bates.
I have played with such bands and artists as Freida, Cosmic Tricycle, Bionic Monkey, Metabots, Vulvox, Sacred Ground (Beef), Billy Johnson Road Show, Memphis, Tripolar, Invisible Ray Brown, Spunfuse, Michael James Wachner, Rebecca Leland, Mel's Diner, and Weathered Ivan. In September of 2006, I began playing upright bass and am practicing diligently to become a proficient player.
My main projects right now are the swinging doom metal band Sirens of Titan and Vertigo Sway, a group covering R&B, Soul and Funk from the 60s to today.
In 2008, I began freelancing and doing pickup work in projects ranging from jazz standards to pop to rock. I like listening to all kinds of music INCLUDING country music and rap (any one up for Loretta Lynn and Public Enemy?), but I have a passion for jazz music. Its the music that resonates with me most. I am on a long path to becoming a competent jazz musician.
I am hoping to network with other musicians to find both work and a creative outlet. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4
