Influences
Too much to list really. If I get a spare day, I'll attempt to write em all. West Coast Blues, Delta Blues, Texas Blues, New Orleans Music, 40's Swing, Hot Jazz, Tom Waits, The Dead Kennedys, The Stranglers, Punk, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, good ol kick ass rock n roll and the rightful president of America!!!!!! .......... Jello Biafra!
The late and the most definitely great Gary Primich RIP. The coolest of the cool, badly missed.
Right, let's get one thing straight. I play bass, bass the way it should be, solid grooves, real basslines. If you wanna hear a 5 or 6 string bass player, you got the wrong man! If you wanna play 5,6,7 or 29 string basses buy a guitar, man!! Or better still, go find a doctor. PLEASE DELIVER US FROM THIS EVIL! For me it's all about the feel and the groove.
I use big, fat, heavy strings with an action almost as high as the Empire State, for that warm, double bassy, fat, thuddy, ol' time sound. I have two '51 Fender Precisions and I also use an Ozark Resonator bass which I'm falling in love with more and more every day, it has such a unique tone, it's great for spankin the shit outta! Me good buddy Vince cut a hole in it and smacked a Humbucker in it for me. Also I've recently been using a Harmony H25 Hell Bass!...... Nasty!
The Big Combo began in 1996 after the demise of my band Tornado Express (which featured my good friend Mr Massive Johnny Stokes) and the Vince Lee Blues Band.
Over the years we have achieved alot with The Big Combo, playing many festivals and clubs up and down the country, national radio sessions, and two CD's, a self titled six track EP and the full 18 track albun "CALL IT WHAT YA WANNA".
In 2003 Vince and I joined ex-Nightporters members, Martin Vowles (Guitar) and Kevin Crowe (Drums) to form The Wildcards. An exciting new band with our sights set on the European blues and roots circuit. Since February 2004 the Wildcards have been making their presence felt on the European blues and roots circuit, Headlining shedloadsa Blues festivals throughout the UK and Europe including the great Moulin Blues Festival.
In October 2006 The Wildcards toured Europe as Gary Primich's road band. Which was the most fun you can possibly have!!!! Rest in peace buddy we'll miss you.
The Wildcards second album "RAISING HELL" is OUT NOW!!!! Get it from the main Wildcards site:
www.wildcardsweb.com,
www.rootscd.com
and the
Wildcards Myspace site, have a look. While you're there you can also get yourself a copy of our first album "ON FIRE" and a copy of The Big Combo's "CALL IT WHAT YA WANNA!" if you ain't got them already, and if you ain't, you should!
