Amalie Bruun is a songwriter of sparse brown freckles, powerful pipes, blue eyes, and questionable judgment calls when ordering food from a menu.
She was born in Denmark, ranked the happiest place on earth, and has been playing her way to a more melancholy existence ever since.
Amalie is now in New York City. When not distracted, she is probably playing piano in a small tenement or glockenspiel on a rooftop somewhere. Amalie's EP, HOUSECAT, was recorded at Trout Recordings in Brooklyn and released in April 2009 on iTunes U.S.
Amalie, a once street cat turned housecat, played for change on the sidewalks of Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, London, and Amsterdam. She was either shut down by police or collecting Euro's and Pounds to pay for the tour. Amalie felt comfortable enough to play her first venue a week after she returned home.
Her song 'Never Take Anything For Granted' was picked for the television show '2900 Happiness' and 'If You Give It Up' was licensed as the theme song for the TV series 'Paradise Hotel'. Shortly after that, her track 'Sommerfugle I Maven' was chosen to feature in Danish movie 'I medgang og modgang'. She also co-wrote 'Love Is My Drug' for Daniel Lindstrom, Swedish Idol winner.
Amalie won the NY Songwriter's Circle International Award 2008 for her song 'Tell Me'.
The HOUSECAT EP is Amalie's way of saying the essential is invisible to the eyes.
