Daughter of Big Band vocalist, Nancy Carr and trumpet player, Nick Capezuto (Herb Pomeroy Band 1950's-60's), Amanda Carr is a multi-styled vocalist/keyboardist that grew up playing in Boston's rock and pop clubs in the late 70's and early 80's. Projects took her to live and work in New York City and Los Angeles where she worked and played with notable recording artists. Returning to the Boston area in the early 90's found her following in her mother's footsteps singing with Big Band name groups like Harry James, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, all with whom she still performs as a guest artist. Her small group jazz efforts focus on fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook. As a seasoned songwriter, she's added her own musical gems as well which have received critical acclaim from a tough bevy of jazz reviewers. With the release of her 4th CD, SOON, she was featured in a full back-page story by Nat Hentoff in THE WALL STREET JOURNAL where he hailed, "Amanda Carr is a true jazz singer, She sings and swings with the unaffected confidence of a genuine jazz improviser.. I've rarely heard a jazz singer fuse so naturally and pleasurably... She is an authentic musician..." Currently, she is starring in A Tribute to Peggy Lee and Benny Goodman with the Everett Longstreth Orchestra on a U.S. tour for 2008-09. She has headlined at the EuroJazz festival in Italy along with James Moody and George Mraz. Amanda has also composed and performed award-winning music for two PBS documentaries, receiving both a National Emmy nomination and a New England Emmy award. In 1999 she was awarded the Videographer Award by the NTA for excellence in Music Composition in addition to 3 Telly Awards. Ms. Carr has dozens of T.V. and Radio commercials to her credit.
Her Jazz CD's are titled: "Carr Toons", "Live in San Giorgio" and "Tender Trap" and "SOON", all available at on-line and major music store chains. She has written music and songs for the award winning "Lil Iguana" series, a program focusing on children's safety. She enjoys writing for other musicians. She still sings with various other bands in the area, and is a member of the popular "Martini Brothers" classic rock tribute band.
Among her own recordings, her eclectic album credits include composing and performing with the late great Dave Guard from the Kingston Trio on his final album Up & In and a featured guest on The Old Vienna Kaufeehaus album (the 1st of two) featuring New Englands best singer/songwriters.
Amanda is involved with animal rights and is on the Board of Directors for the Standish Humane Society, running a "no-kill" animal shelter. She is a champion for environmental issues and serves on a Boston area Conservation Commission.
Her next exciting release will be in the Summer of 2009 on her own label with the Kenny Hadley Big Band. Stay tuned or sign up for her mailing list at www.amandacarr.com to receive email updates of these events.
Thanks so much for the Add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends!
We hope you and your friends enjoy our music, too. We've just added four new compositions and two new blogs about Umano.
We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
It also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
The new album 'Coolgilly and the Freakshow' from Centascope is now available worldwide from CD Baby and directly from the merchandise page of the official website.
You can also get the album from Apple iTunes, MSN Music, Rhapsody, Napster, Amazon and many more.
