Born and bread in the Boston area, from two former Berklee Alumni, Amanda Corvini only new one thing growing up. Music. Starting at the tender age of four, she began studying classical flute from former Berklee graduate Lisa Villani. Due to her tenacious appetite for music, she was able to advance into the Brockton Public Elementary Band program a year early. Playing first flute for three years in the public school was a good leadership experience and would lay the groundwork for performance and leadership skills later in life. Although she had studied flute with such drive, Amanda hungered for more. Taking her to the local music store, her mother and father purchased her a Bundy beginner alto saxophone. Taking on this new challenge would only prove her greater passion for woodwinds. Amanda finished her elementary school career on lead alto, and began in her junior high career on the tenor saxophone. In eighth grade Amanda performed with the Brockton High School Junior Jazz Band (BHJJB). Still performing in the BHJJB in her freshman year of high school, Amanda and her band-mates competed in the IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) Festival in Stoughton. Not only playing tenor sax, but also soloing on flute. That summer Amanda attended the Berklee Summer Program ‘Saxophone Weekend’ and was instructed by Berklee Professor Harry Skoler, and Lance Van Lenton. Still exploring woodwinds, Amanda picked up the bari sax, and began performing with the Brockton High School Concert Band. Sophomore year Amanda auditioned and became a member of the Brockton High School Advanced Concert Band, Senior Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Sax Quartet. She also began studying with Berklee Associate Professor Jeff Harrington. The Senior Jazz Band went on that year to compete at the IAJE Festival in Stoughton, MA winning a Gold Medal and advancing to the State Finals in Lowell MA. The same year, the Brockton High Wind Ensemble competed in the MICCA Festival in Hopkinton, MA winning a Gold Medal, and going on to perform at Symphony Hall in Boston MA. Amanda coordinated and ran the BHS sax quartet, performing prior to many concerts. The same year Amanda was asked to perform in the Pit Orchestra for the Brockton High School Musical ‘42nd Street.’ Junior year proved to be not only rewarding, but also fun filled. The Brockton High School Wind Ensemble competed in the Dixie Classic Festival in Orlando Florida and won a Gold Metal. The band also had the chance to play at Disney Worlds Epcot Theme Park. In her final year at high school, Amanda was moved to lead tenor saxophone in the Jazz Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. Another exciting event Amanda performed for was the opening night of the Brockton Rox Baseball Team with the BHS Marching Band. World famous actor Bill Murray hired had asked for the band personally. Soon after graduating from Brockton High, Amanda participated in the Berklee 5 Week Program. Studying again with Harry Skoler and Lance Van Lenton. She played at the Annual BBQ with the sax group, and also performed with late Berklee Professor Frank Withey. Amanda soon started at Berklee College of Music, and immediately found a niche playing on several Film Scoring Projects for friends. In her second semester she was accepted to the music therapy major. She now is currently going to school, working with different populations of people around Boston, and playing bari sax in different projects around Berklee such as the Co-Op Big Band, and currently playing with the Berklee Tower of Power Ensemble.
