Band MembersIn case you can't tell, this is just me recording songs on a laptop computer in my apartment. I'm now going with the harmonica holder rather than a coffee mug as a microphone stand. I think it's an improvement.
InfluencesDylan, Robert Johnson, Leonard Cohen, Hank Williams, Sr., Lucinda Williams, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell.... plus all the people I've met and continue to meet. Current songs: -"Almost You" That was always one of my alltime favorite lines-- Elvis Costello or otherwise: "there's a girl here and she's almost you." This is basically that line stretched into a whole song. -"My Heart is A Word-Fist" started with an image from the movie Closer about the human heart resembling a fist... somehow it became what it is: an exploration of how someone with such a boring life can right songs. -Somewhat like 'Almost You', "Beggar" develops from a line in Luigi Pirandello's play Enrico IV. -"Till it goes away"-- I don't know where this came from... but it isn't any good. Old songs: -"Break, Break, Break" (no longer posted) slowly mutated out of a Tennyson poem I set to music. -"Silvia" is an adaptation of a poem by Giacomo Leopardi. -"Evil-Hearted Woman" is a Robert Johnson pastiche. -"Lucy" uses a musical figures taken from Elvis Costello and Tom Waits. It is also very unconsciously Joni Mitchell-like.
Sounds LikeBob Dylan, Hank Williams, Leonard Cohen, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Robert Johnson, Joni Mitchell, early Tom Waits.

   About John Welsh
Well, you saw my picture in the Corpus Christi Tribune underneath it it said "A Man With No Alibi" You went out on a limb to testify for me you said I was with you And when I saw you break down in front of the judge and cry real tears It was the best acting I saw anybody do.

hey fool,

i am not that internet popular. my friends include the Fremont Troll, two generic army dolls, and coffee. not even a specific kind or cup, just the form of coffee. being friends with concepts or categories makes me feel good.

i can't wait to see you too. mom does not get mitch hedberg jokes.

i just cannot imagine a situation in which i would have to prove that I bought a donut.

john, you have a lovely voice. i regret not being a better student of yours before you moved away. now i have a very dusty left handed electric guitar. someday (after thesis) i will pick it up and later thrill you with my poetic rendition of the practice scales. next time you come home for a visit let me know and we will go play pool, drink too much, and ridicule eachothers taste in music.
