Bansuri Flutes, Dilruba, Overtone chants, Tamboura, Vocals, and amazing musician friends (on 'Call of the Divine' the wonderful Guru Mantra is given by Indian vocalist Ma Anuradha from Pune, Maharashtra).
Influences
Indian classical music, particularly the styles of the masters of the North Indian Bamboo flute 'Bansuri'; Indian Dhrupad singing, as well as all the devotional and prayerful chants and Bhajans of the Asian mystical traditions.
Another strong influence is the ambient shamanic percussive sound world mystique of Steve Roach and Byron Metcalf with who I have explored the fascinating fusion of ambient sounds, shamanic percussion, Bansuri Flutes, and overtone chanting.
During a deep vision quest, another Eastern influence revealed itself to me: My ancestors supposedly hail from the area of Mongolia, where throat singing has its home.
My musical adventure is also deeply influenced by the wisdom of many spiritual and shamanic teachers, most of all by Osho, HH the Dalai Lama, Maria Sabina, Terence McKenna, Stan Grof, Ralph Metzner, Ken Wilber, to name just a few.
Sounds Like
1. Devotional-Sacred, created by mantra chants and traditional Indian Ragas played on the Bansuri, such as in the newly released album 'Disciple' or as in 'Parimal in Silence'. These albums lend themselves well for all types of deep meditation, Yoga practice, spiritual/devotional and heartcentered disciplines etc.
2. Meditative-Relaxing, created by weaving guitar, Bansuri and soft percussion into a tapestry of sound that is very appealing to ear and spirit, supporting any relaxing or meditative mood. This genre appears on 'Waves of Silence', and on the upcoming 'Dharma Moments'.
3. Shamanic-Ambient, created by soundworlds, overtone chants, powerful percussion from frame drums, claypots etc., and Bansuri flutes. This genre reflects the profound ecstasies and the challenging depths of shamanic journeys. It can be heard on 'Wachuma's Wave' and on the album 'Mantram'.
Mark was born in 1957. From early on he has been fascinated by the world's spiritual traditions. His interests have taken him to India, the USA, and Germany.
After many years of therapeutic and academic training Mark left the scholarly world behind. The influence of Asian mysticism and spirituality, along with the musical traditions of India have turned his life around.
After receiving classical training on the violin from age 8 through 14, followed by guitar playing and singing, his musical focus has shifted again at age 42: During a deep vision quest, Mark felt encouraged to take up the North Indian bamboo flute 'Bansuri' at a rather late age for picking up a new instrument. He is now studying with the Indian Bansuri Maestro R.K. Bikramjit Singh.
In his work with groups and individuals as a clinical psychotherapist and in private practice, Mark embraces the philosophy of Transpersonal Psychotherapy. He facilitates breathwork and shamanic rituals in which he uses music and non-ordinary states of consciousness to create a space of ceremony and healing.
Mark's music and work is offered hoping to make a small contribution to raising consciousness: May we all learn to face our shadows, honor our skills, and live in harmony with each other and the universe.
Thanks for your message. Yes it would be great to play together. What are the tonics of the bansuris you play? Sarod usually has a C tonic which means the flute is a little on the high side for most players, but I play in different tonics. In fact my sarod style is really decidedly unconventional these days to my using fingerpicking as accompaniment to the vocals and songs. Let me know when you will be in the Bay Area.
We are proud to present our current album "True Fidelity". Electro-acoustic chillout, lounge and easy-listening well mixed and always ready to surprise you.

My dear Friends! Thank you so much for your amazing and insightful comments and messages over the past few months! I hope you are ALL doing magnificently, living in the NOW right now, living in the Light. I am very happy to let you know that on August 17, 2009, I opened my solo Family Medicine clinic here in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, called Healing Waters Family Medicine. I find that an important thing I am having to do is get the old community-health-center-practice-model out of ME so I can realize my dreams here. At first, I was surprised how little the job had changed even though I was in a new and beautiful place. Slowly it has dawned on me that as I change myself, my clinic will change.
As I let go of fear I find I that one can move at my own pace at work, take time to be with myself and with others throughout the day, time to really think about things, enjoy life. I think I can do this! At least I did it today! And most of the time this week!and I can do it everyday as long as I...well I guess as long as the bills don't exceed the money coming in.
It is quite odd that at the time when I am realizing my dream to have the vehicle that I thought would be my part of "healing the world," I am letting go of my idea of healing the world! Maybe it does not need to be healed! Maybe it is really ok and doing all right as it is.
I am working a lot and every night I get pissed off when I am staying after 8 pm trying to figure out how to enter billing codes and struggling with my bad typing etc until late...but then I go home and I feel free, nothing hanging over my head.
So I may not be able to write very often but I APPRECIATE EVERY ONE OF YOU GREATLY. You are in my heart and my thoughts. (I hope to be able to show some of the beautiful videos you have sent me, in my waiting room! Hope that is OK.) .
