About me: Amber Soffea has always been exceptional, both medically and personally. From the materials on this page, people will come to understand that Amber has been afflicted for many painful years by an unusual immune deficiency syndrome perpetuated by a rare auto-immune reaction. This strange form of a unique highly complex immunological condition was left deliberately untreated, almost resulting in her death, a serious consequence of suffering the cruel effects of willful medical negligence. Much of this previously lacking diagnosis stems from the inability of physicians to proceed with such work without adequate funding, but also their blatant refusal of even the most basic care and the NHS Doctor's words repeatedly told to her, " it would be cheaper for the NHS if she died". Whilst we know that these wasted years are not replaceable, her sheer grit and courage prove to be the strongest part of this spirit driven Lady leading her to cling for dear life, to the very life she has almost lost. One risks committing the deepest of injustices by viewing Amber's exceptional being only in knowing her by her illness. Personally Amber stands only to serve others. For Amber, this service stems from her deep, spiritual faith that operates as a guiding principle in helping others. Amber understands her diagnosis, treatment, and eventual recovery only as functions in helping and serving. Indeed, as explained below, Amber's diagnosis and treatment have already helped and served others. Further funding for additional research, diagnosis, and treatment will only continue this help and service. Finally, Amber's personal, axiomatic understanding of her role in this world guarantees that when made whole, she will only continue to help and serve others.
Amber's Help and Service to Date
Physicians in Europe and the United States have already come to recognize the uniqueness of Amber's medical condition. However, as a mythical beast such as a unicorn is understood in such concrete terms as a horse with one horn thus identified by its distinguishing, if diverse, body parts so has Amber's condition helped Western medical science to better understand at minimum the component parts of Amber's illness, if only by its separate (but still probably inseparable) immunological, digestive, and neurological symptoms. As a result of this understanding, Ambers illness has been the subject of publications both at the National Institute of Health and abroad. Individual physicians have learned from the experimental protocols used to treat Amber. These protocols have been instructive in treating such conditions as Crohn's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, AIDS, and many other diseases. Those protocols have then been used to treat other patients, and so on. The sacrifices made to both treat Amber and that have perhaps prolonged her illness have, to date, largely only been of service to others.
The Help Provided by Continued Diagnosis and Treatment
Amber, for her part, remains ill. The sacrifices and treatments applied to date notwithstanding, Amber deserves to be made whole. The only reasons why Amber has not achieved a fullness of her health to date have been a lack of funding and medical care willing, under financial constraints, to press forward to the end. Apart from this, only what treatment protocols do make Amber more functional are known.
However, as the foregoing indicates, funding further work for Amber can only operate to further benefit medical science. The physicians she is working with now, as shown in her other portfolio contents, are among the best in the world. Those physicians merely point out the material imperative of this world that in order to fund additional work, money is required. But given payment of those physicians tuition, they are driven to learn not only how to help Amber, but from the experience gained from her unique, diverse condition, to be able to help others. The expanded understanding of how to help others medically has, perhaps, no worthier competitor. This is the purpose in helping Amber now.
The Help to Others When Amber is Cured
However, it is but Ambers nature to help others, regardless of her own physical condition. Whether in the depths of her illness or the peak of her health under treatment, Amber has provided years of volunteer service to terminally and critically ill patients with an understanding found only by one who has experienced it herself. She has provided similar service in the rescue and rehabilitation of cats, dogs, horses, and many other animals. She has written and published while weighing less than many 10 year olds and otherwise unable to walk. She has run a successful and profitable organic gardening business. She has then donated proceeds to her church, other charity organizations, and to individuals who probably will never know the suffering Amber herself has endured.
Helping Amber now is only on effort in helping her to serve others. Ambers faithful determination to so serve others is the driving reason she has permitted herself to survive to the present day. Perhaps prospective sponsors, by virtue of their own generous desire also to help and serve, feel some comity with this all-too-uncommon modern world view. However, Amber simply cannot meet this goal without the help of others. Sadly, the only factor lacking in sufficing her to have complete diagnosis and treatment is funding. Many people are born into this world; Some suffer with great challenges. Amber was born with vast afflictions, and learned courage, dignity and strength of character.
1985: At age 19, first symptoms appeared, diagnosed by doctors in England as including: Wasting Syndrome (rapid weight loss from 124 lbs. to 100 lbs. within a month), jaundice, enlarged liver (presented as hepatitis or HIV symptoms, though all tests for these have been negative.) Fever/night sweats, enlarged lymph nodes, migraines, severe gastro-intestinal symptoms, dizziness, double vision, angina, sinusitis and mouth/throat blood blisters.
During the following six years, Ambers symptoms became chronic. She spent these years going from doctor to doctor, trying to develop a diagnosis and treatment protocol. It was a very difficult time in her life. Never complaining, always seeking the Lords help and that of good physicians, Amber never gave up hope.
Unfortunately many roadblocks occurred. Most physicians were unwilling or unable to take her case for a significant time period, because of her lack of insurance/finances and humble means. Amber herself gained a strong understanding of medical thought and practice as she looked for a way to learn and cure this unique, complex illness within herself.
1992: Amber met Doctor Jean Monroe, who first diagnosed her as having an immunological condition that in fact caused all of the other symptoms. Treatment at that time was limited to infusions, a unique protocol of allergy vaccines, anti-viral IVIG Carimmune, immune modulators and parental nutrition. These treatments were derived from American research and experimental in Europe. The treatment worked so well that her weight went up to 126 lbs and Amber felt great! Her condition was deemed essentially stabilized. She appeared on television, in newspapers and other media at the request of her physician.

1993: The NHS (National Health Service of England) pulled funding for any additional treatment with Dr. Monroe. Amber was literally stranded just as her health was dramatically improving. Her weight again dropped and no IVIG supplies were made available. Ultimately Amber moved between eight different counties to appeal to each countys Health Authority for help from 1993 to 2001. In 1994, Amber received minimal partial funding again from the NHS. Treatment was given by Dr. Monroe once again, sufficient for her to maintain a underweight of 98 lbs.
1999: Amber met Doctor Ian Hyams, a top ten oncologist/immunologist who refined Dr. Monroes diagnosis calling her condition HIV negative/CD4 deficiency. Dr. Hyams verbally indicated that he was appalled with the lack of treatment given by the NHS, and was surprised Amber was still alive. On compassionate grounds, Dr. Hyams treated Amber at a greatly reduced cost for the first year.
1999-2000: As part of a clinical trial experiment, Dr. Hyams applied an advanced American-derived treatment protocol for CD4 deficiency and immune-compromised patients including Carimmune, IVIG, anti-viral infusions, anti-bacterial infusions, antibiotics (in rotation), high levels of glutathione, high doses of B-12 vitamin, growth hormone and immune modulators. Under this treatment, Amber again stabilized and was healthier according to her doctor than in all of her previous years. Because of this great success, Dr. Hyams presented the case to the American National Institute of Health (NIH) and in American medical journals.
2001: A mass was discovered in Ambers lower left abdomen. Her blood work caused Dr. Hyamns to suspect possible cancer of the stomach. Her weight dropped to 52 lbs. It was deemed imminently terminal.
God, our Heavenly Father is the Creator of this Universe, and the Creator of each of us. We are all literally His children, brothers and sisters one to another. God gives us these life experiences, each different and each suited for a particular child. As we learn and endure, He alone determines the outcome and how long we shall live in mortality. He hears and answers our prayers, not based upon our own personal desires and needs, but from His vantage and view of an eternal perspective.
2001-2002: Dr. Hyams attempted to arrange for Amber to go to Switzerland for a hospital that specialized in this type of care. Instead, the NHS denied funding, and Amber was sent home in an ambulance, at 52 lbs. to Shropshire, England to die. However, it was not the will of the Lord. Instead, in Shropshire she met with a Doctor Mealings who arranged to have her on intravenous feedings and antibiotics. Her weight came back up to 88 lbs. She received this treatment as part of an experimental historical research by the British government to examine the feeding used on emaciated prisoners of war from Nazi camps. The mass remained untreated in her abdomen, but basic blood work does not reveal the indicia of cancer.

2003-2004: Dr. Hyams moved his practice to Canada. No medical professionals in England have since used his exact protocol.
