Having grown up in both India and Britain, Ambika has drawn her musical influences from a diversity of musical traditions, which is undeniably evident in the style of her voice and
her music. As daughter of a renowned violinist, string arranger and composer, both, her inherited gift of music and the dynamic musical environment in which she grew up have guided her dreams and ambitions throughout her life.
She started learning music at the age of 6 and at the age of 10, she was the youngest violinist to perform at the South Bank Centre’s Meltdown festival in 1997. Since then, she has been performing extensively around the UK, including at the BBC Family Proms in 2005 and with the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2007. Besides a flourishing career in music, she is taking on board a career in acting and is currently studying a Film & Television with Media Arts degree at St. Mary's London. She was featured in the recent BBC Asian Network advert and 'Desi mixer'. (see video below)
Having had her roots in Indian traditional music and having grown up with the powerful influences of soul, pop and R'n'B, Ambika was determined to debut with an album that amalgamates both influences to present music of a new genre that was truly her. She came up with "Indioul" - soul with influences of Indian.
Her upcoming EP 'Touched my heart' features 6 beautiful songs that describe everything about Indioul. The little touches of Indian singing she adds to her songs make them unique and define her as an artist. She calls these Indioul moments. She believes the market is ready to receive her concept and is giving 200% to getting her idea and dream off the ground.
