Un pò di storia:
La prima formazione degli Ameba vede la luce nella città di Lecco sul finire del 1988. Il quartetto voce-chitarra-basso-batteria originario sprigiona sonorità metal-crossover con linee vocali rap. Dopo le consuete e numerose esibizioni nei locali della zona, la band approda al primo omonimo demo nel 1995, che pur andando al di là delle più rosee aspettative non riesce a salvare il chitarrista e il batterista dall’abbandono. I due elementi superstiti si rendono conto che il panorama musicale sta cambiando a favore della computer music. Parole come “campionamento” e “sintetico” cominciano a circolare anche sulle labbra dei non musicisti. La band adotta una soluzione rapida e al passo coi tempi: la batteria viene rimpiazzata con una drum machine e la chitarra con un synth. Per il gruppo si apre una nuova era.
Nel 1999 tre elementi si affiancano agli storici cantante e bassista. I novelli chitarrista, tastierista e voce femminile, nonostante le differenti esperienze, abbracciano in fretta la causa degli Ameba e la fanno propria. Nell’estate 2000 viene registrato e prodotto quello che si può definire il primo vero album del gruppo, Extremely Rare: voci taglienti e sospiri, chitarre classiche e distorsioni elettriche, violoncelli, morbidi tappeti, bassi liquidi, synth, campionamenti... Seppur con mezzi limitati il prodotto finale esprime appieno la nuova dirompente forza espressiva del quintetto. Il disco, inviato ai media e agli addetti ai lavori, raccoglie numerosi consensi.
Nel 2003, dopo molti concerti, tra i quali spicca la partecipazione al concorso musicale Voci per la libertà - Una canzone per Amnesty, che li vede vincitori del premio della critica, la band deve far fronte all’abbandono dello storico bassista, che viene sostituito nell’anno successivo.
Agli inizi del 2005 il gruppo acquista un’impronta ancor più elettronica grazie all’aggiunta di un nuovo componente ai synth.

A little of history:
It was the end of 1988 when Ameba saw the light in Lecco. Their early music was a hybrid of metal crossover and rap vocal lines. After many years of intense activity and concerts, their first omonim demo was recorded in 1995, but, despite the increasing success, it couldn t help the guitarist and the drummer leaving the group. The world music trend was changing towards computer music. Brand new words like synth and electronical samples were more and more familiar not only among musicians, and what Ameba did was to replace drums with drum machine and guitars with synth. It was a new start for the band.
Amebas sound knew great impulse and reached higher levels when, in 1999, a gifted female voice, a guitarist and a keyboard player joined the band. One year later the group released what can be considered its true first album, Extremely Rare: an exceptionally original electronic mixture of violins, liquid basses, deep feedbacks, electric distorsions, samples, screams, sighs and melodies. The album was a great success and received the approval of the media and of experts.
In 2003 the band played in many concerts all around north Italy. The most important was Voci per la Libertà - Una canzone per Amnesty, a music contest for Amnesty International that saw the group coming second and winning the critic award prize.
In 2004 the bass player changed, and at the beginning of 2005 a synth and computer player joined the band giving a new electronic impulse to its sound.
