Bio
California-born vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Amelia Ray has been performing her original soul rock music in the United States and in Europe for almost 20 years. She has shared the stage with Chuck Rainey, Elliott Randall, Rob Bargad, Maia Sharp and Kenny Aronoff, to name a few. Since taking up residency in Europe she has participated in festivals such as FestDobréBohunice (SK), Altstadtzauber Klagenfurt (AT), the International Festival of the Arts of Castille and Léon, Jazz Festival Madrid, and the Blues Festival of Ponferrada (ES). 2011 will see the release of Ray's eighth album, Scenes from an Icelandic Novel, borne out of her stay in Iceland's Skriduklaustur artist residency program in December 2008. The album features Mari-José Estivariz on bass, Jake Wood on drums, and was recorded under the tutelage of producer Paco Loco. Amelia's songs have been featured in films such as the Italian documentary Leaning Left, the German documentary Schwarzenberg (2007), and the powerful film about forgiveness, "A Killing in Choctaw" (2004). Her version of "To Turn You On" was included on Burning Sky's "Take Refuge in Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited" compilation. -
