Imagine Minneapolis-style southern fried rock dipped in diesel and Katrina-grime and lit up like a cigarette hand-rolled with magnesium shavings. This is American Disaster Party.
American Disaster Party was formed by Johnny Feral, Shawn Reynolds and Chris Brooks in 2007 and later joined by LeMar Williamson in 2009. John Feral -- most widely known as the frontman of The Ferals (MPLS rock staple 1993-2005) -- moved from his wintry homeland to New Orleans shortly after Katrina. This sharpened his gravel-voiced, edgy, vaguely apocalyptic songs to an even deadlier point. Guitarist Shawn Reynolds (The Drugstore Cowgirls, Horus 8 & The Werewolves), disappointed with the Los Angeles music scene and the mercurial nature of his possible recording contract with Rondor Music, moved to New Orleans to find the soul of music, and he, Brooks, and Feral meshed into American Disaster Party.
Bassist LeMar Williamson (Jakeleg / Three Legged Dog, NOLA) -- joined the revolution, and in an old decrepit mansion on Montegut St., they all began to give voice to the giddy frustration of a city on the brink of collapse.
First assembled in 2007 as the musicians for the sold-out show "The Palanquine Diaries: A Sordid Rock Musical" , American Disaster Party decided they couldn’t get enough of creating their own brand of shameless, low-slung, dirty rock’n’roll. Since then, they've played the SF’s Cyclecide Bike Rodeo and the Noo Moon stage at Voodoo Fest. Over the last two years they have shared the stage with the Gal Holiday, Happy Talk Band, and Fishbone to glowing reviews.
American Disaster Party grinds metallic: The sound of hammering and sawing against the folly of man and nature. Breathing in black mold, gasoline fumes, desperation, regret, and indignance, they survey the Armageddon falling down around them, pick up their beat-to-shit guitars, and exhale with a loud FUCK YES LET’S PARTY ANYWAY.
The house band on the Titanic played as that great vessel sank ... so why shouldn’t the rest of us?
