American Graffiti Salute is Cruisin' The Boulevard! Posted at 10:37 PM Aug 19, 2008 view more
Petaluma’s Salute to American Graffiti is an annual celebration of the “happy days” of the ‘50s and early ‘60s as portrayed in George Lucas’ 1973 film, American Graffiti.
This year's festivities took place on May 15, 16 and 17 and included the re-creation of the Jerry’s Cherries Cop Car destruction scene, Kick-off Dinner, and American Graffiti Cruise-in. This year, we closed down the streets of Petaluma for our Classic Car Extravaganza and American Graffiti Downtown Cruise, where most of the scenes in the movie were filmed in the early summer of 1972.
American Graffiti Salute is produced by .. an all-volunteer, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit California Public Benefit Corporation. A significant portion of the proceeds from each annual Salute benefits our own community projects; schools; and other community programs that focus on the arts, history, health, safety and welfare of Petaluma.
Celebrating The 35th Anniversary of the Filming of American Graffiti!!
Who I'd like to meet: All of the stars and cars in the movie!! Of course, fans of the move and hot rod lovers are those who will enjoy this the most!
This year Candy Clark, Bo Hopkins, Paul Le Mat and Lynne Marie Stewart celebrated with us, along with a few of the movie cars!! There was even a Toad look-a-like riding around on a white Vespa! I think he may have been the star of the entire event!! It was a blast, baby!!
We have "American Graffiti" fans visit from all over the U.S. and even as far away as Japan, New Zealand, and Sweden! We haven't even started to plan next year's event and fans are already calling for the dates (May 14, 15, & 16, 2009) so they can make their hotel reservations and plan their visit!
To all of our friends who come to our last 3 celebrations, THANK YOU....WE LOVE ALL OF YOU!
To those who are planning to celebrate with us in 2009 for the first time, get ready! It's a really good time!!
