The libertarian, or "classical liberal," perspective is that individual well-being, prosperity, and social harmony are fostered by "as much liberty as possible" and "as little government as necessary."
According to Funk and Wagnall's Dictionary
lib-er-tar-i-an, n. 1. a person who advocates liberty, esp. with regard to thought or conduct.... advocating liberty or conforming to principles of liberty.
According to American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition, 2000.
NOUN: 1. One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state.
According to "The Challenge of Democracy" (6th edition), by Kenneth Janda, Jeffrey Berry, and Jerry Goldman
Liberals favor government action to promote equality, whereas conservatives favor government action to promote order. Libertarians favor freedom and oppose government action to promote either equality or order.
Libertarianism, political philosophy emphasizing the rights of the individual. The doctrine of libertarianism stresses the right to self-ownership and, by extension, the right to private ownership of material resources and property. Advocates oppose any form of taxation and favor a laissez-faire economic system.
According to "Libertarianism: A Primer" by David Boaz, Free Press, 1997.
Libertarianism is the view that each person has the right to live his life in any way he chooses so long as he respects the equal rights of others. Libertarians defend each person's right to life, liberty, and property-rights that people have naturally, before governments are created. In the libertarian view, all human relationships should be voluntary; the only actions that should be forbidden by law are those that involve the initiation of force against those who have not themselves used force-actions like murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and fraud.
According to "What It Means to Be a Libertarian" by Charles Murray, Broadway Books, 1997.
The American Founders created a society based on the belief that human happiness is intimately connected with personal freedom and responsibility. The twin pillars of the system they created were limits on the power of the central government and protection of individual rights. . . .
A few people, of whom I am one, think that the Founders' insights are as true today as they were two centuries ago. We believe that human happiness requires freedom and that freedom requires limited government.
The correct word for my view of the world is liberal. "Liberal" is the simplest anglicization of the Latin liber, and freedom is what classical liberalism is all about. The writers of the nineteenth century who expounded on this view were called liberals. In Continental Europe they still are. . . . But words mean what people think they mean, and in the United States the unmodified term liberal now refers to the politics of an expansive government and the welfare state. The contemporary alternative is libertarian. . . .
Libertarianism is a vision of how people should be able to live their lives-as individuals, striving to realize the best they have within them; together, cooperating for the common good without compulsion. It is a vision of how people may endow their lives with meaning-living according to their deepest beliefs and taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
About me:
Libertarianism is a term used by a broad spectrum of political philosophies which seek to maximize individual liberty, and the minimization of, or for some libertarians, the abolition of state power over individuals' personal and economic decisions. Libertarians embrace viewpoints across that spectrum ranging from openly anarchist to minimal government. The word libertarian is an antonym of authoritarian.
As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others.
We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized.
Consequently, we defend each person's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest, and welcome the diversity that freedom brings. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any authoritarian power.
Our goal is nothing more nor less than a world set free in our lifetime, and it is to this end that we take these stands.
We Libertarians challenge the cult of the omnipotent state and defend the rights of the individual.
We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.
Governments throughout history have regularly operated on the opposite principle, that the State has the right to dispose of the lives of individuals and the fruits of their labor. Even within the United States, all political parties other than our own grant to government the right to regulate the lives of individuals and seize the fruits of their labor without their consent.
We, on the contrary, deny the right of any government to do these things, and hold that where governments exist, they must not violate the rights of any individual: namely, (1) the right to life -- accordingly we support the prohibition of the initiation of physical force against others; (2) the right to liberty of speech and action -- accordingly we oppose all attempts by government to abridge the freedom of speech and press, as well as government censorship in any form; and (3) the right to property -- accordingly we oppose all government interference with private property, such as confiscation, nationalization, and eminent domain, and support the prohibition of robbery, trespass, fraud, and misrepresentation.
Since governments, when instituted, must not violate individual rights, we oppose all interference by government in the areas of voluntary and contractual relations among individuals. People should not be forced to sacrifice their lives and property for the benefit of others. They should be left free by government to deal with one another as free traders; and the resultant economic system, the only one compatible with the protection of individual rights, is the free market.

Thanks for the invitation. The o0nly viable parties are us Libertarians, and the Constitution folks. We need to take control of our country once again.
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT TAKING THEIR ISSUES IN TO
THE COURT IS NOT ABOUT HIRING ATTORNEYS TO RAISE THE CORE ISSUES THAT
HAVE TO BE RAISED. NO REPRESENTATIVE CAN MAKE ANY HUMAN CLAIM OF INJURY
OR INHERENT RIGHTS. ONLY THE PEOPLE OURSELVES CAN DO THIS. THIS WHOLE
MOVEMENT TO TURN AROUND CORRUPTION IS NOT ABOUT ATTORNEYS DOING IT.
THEY ARE THE REASON FOR THE CORRUPTION. LIKE THE ARTICLE ABOVE, THEY
MANIPULATE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO PROFIT AND RETAIN CONTROL, AS THEY
HAVE LOST CONTROL NOW. THEIR WHOLE SCHEME MUST BE DISSOLVED. ONCE WE
RESTORE OUR PLACE OF AUTHORITY AND THE LAW, IT FILTERS OUT FROM THE
COURTROOM CORE TO THE AGENCIES, THE OTHER BRANCHES, THE WHOLE PUBLIC
TRUST RESTORED. RIGHT NOW IT IS COMPLETLY DISCREDITED. WE HAVE TO MAKE
THIS DELUGE INTO A RISING FLOOD THAT INCAPACITATES THE CORRUPTED
SYSTEM. THEY ARE NOT UPHOLDING THE LAW OR THEIR OATHS. THEY HAVE TO BE
STOPPED. THESE ARE OUR COURTROOMS THEY HAVE SUBVERTED. THE PEOPLE HAVE
TO LEARN THEIR RIGHTS AND DO IT NOW.
Attorneys and Judges keep using the words "pro se" and you have to
correct them when they do this. They are not telling you WHY they do
this or what the terms really mean. They are NOT telling you that in
the court they WANT EVERYONE TO BE A FICTION .... THEY ARE NOT
CONSTITUTIONAL COURTS OF THE PEOPLE. THEY ARE NOT OPERATING COURTS IN
WHICH YOU HAVE RIGHTS. THEY ARE OPERATING A COMMERCIAL ADMINISTRATIVE
PROCESS IN WHICH YOU ARE A COMMODITY, A SLAVE TO BE EXPLOITED. THE
SYSTEM THEY ARE OPERATING DOES NOT CONSIDER YOUR INHERENT RIGHTS, YOUR
ABUSE OR INJURIES - ONLY YOUR MONETARY VALUE AND WHETHER OR NOT IT
MOVES IN THE MACHINE. HUMAN RIGHTS, THE BILL OF RIGHTS PROCESS,
REQUIRES THE COURT TO BE NEUTRAL TO THE CLAIMS OF ADVERSE PARTIES,
PEOPLE, CONTRACTS SIGNED BY PEOPLE, NOT FICTIONS, AS THEY ARE DOING
NOW. THE FRAUD IS ALL IN THE PROCESS. THE LAW IS ALSO IN THE LAWFUL
PROCESS, WHEREIN THE TRUTH IS THE STANDARD IN LAW.
Thanks for the add. I post and repost all libertarian links to my facebook friends and frequently repost important videos to all my myspace page bulletins. I'm of the belief that if every one take a minute to repost things they think are important we can get our message to more that haven't heard it.
