A marriage of Jimi Hendrix's soulful style with Bill Frisell's atmospheres. Add a roots, reggae and hip-hop budunkadunk, and coffeehouse drumming and you've found the iceberg's tip.
Now plumb the depths to discover what truly lies underneath.
American Motel's music is both refreshing and evoking. With jazz roots, a dash of hip-hop, a sprinkling of blues and an all-purpose flavor, this Piedmont, NC-based collective is a newly reincarnated vision of old and new. The band was formed in 2006 and disbanded early, after only two recordings.
Veteran guitarist Seth Peagler reformed the group in 2009 with New York drummer Doc MacNab and roots and reggae bassist Sally Newland. Currently a search is on for a local hand percussionist to round out the sound and fill in the middles.
The current recordings on this page feature the former lineup; the only current member on those recordings is Seth Peagler: Doc and Sally are not. But we wanted to get something up that will give the listener SOME idea of the direction the band has come from and near to where we are going. That being said, the *new sound* isn't that different from the old, but there are minor changes as musicians each have their own individual styles. There are immediate plans to record new material and possibly re-record some of the familiar old songs. Stay tuned and offer feedback when you like.
