Mission Statement
American River Acoustic Music Camp (ARAMC) honors traditions and celebrates innovations in Folk Music and Folk Lore. Folk music is social music. Whether you aspire to perform, just want to comfortably jam with friends, or share a song with a loved one, our mission is to help you do it.
Goals of the American River Acoustic Music Camp
WE BELIEVE THAT:
- Anybody can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat and make music confidently with other people.
- We can help you to increase your musical skills and confidence whether you are just getting started or are an advanced player.
- There are many road maps to learning music such as listening, looking, imitating and/or translating music ideas written down. They all have value and serve in the quest.
- The goal is not a formula for music but more an agenda to celebrate what you already have inside you.
- No one path is better -- only different. We will provide these road maps - and others
we'll encourage you to discover. This will keep you on your journey.
- A community of diverse people can come together to celebrate music, song, lore and dance. We do so by fostering a community within the camp to be taken out into the larger community as a whole and shared.
Folklore is the oral history of culture, its foundation. Folk Music is the culture’s musical history, the foundation of all music. It is international in its scope, it is inclusive of all the genres of music, from jazz to gospel, classical to hip-hop, R&B to Rock, traditional Appalachian, Asian, African and European music. Music performed by Folks, for Folks.
ARAMC Camp Philosophy
Each and every camp participant’s musical and artistic effort is considered an equal contribution to the American River Acoustic Music Camp experience.

Message from Joe Craven, Artistic Director:
Come this August, 2009! It will be time again to gather on the river!
The American River Acoustic Music Camp will enter into its fifth year with an even more diverse, engaging and fun four days of learning, sharing and growing. We have a new location at the beautiful American River Resort just upstream from last year's location. With a broader range of core and elective offerings this year, there will be more subjects of focus to choose from or to try for the first time! A theme for this year is Connection through Collaborating. There will be activities to do just that with all of us instructors and students alike! We want the journey of making sing & string folkroots music an even more diverse and fun experience than last year!
