The Coyote - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Flute, Percussion and DRUMS!
After losing our drummer to the Coast Guard, I realized it was time for me to learn to play drums. Steve left his Ludwig Vistalite set in our rehearsal room, "The Batcave," in North Hollywood. I played those for a while, but then he had them shipped to where he was stationed in Florida.
So two Valentine's days ago, I went out and got what any nice guy would never buy on Valentine's Day, I bought a drum set.
It's taken two years, but I really like listening to my drums now--so I'm hoping you will too. I'm playing a really cheap Chinese made red burgundy sparkle set made of wood. It sounds really huge on the record because I tune the drums with the lower heads at lower notes...
Our new album, LEVEL 3 = I WANT YOU TO LOVE ME, will hopefully win some Christians back who got scared off by our our last album, LEVEL 2 = CHRIST KILLER.
Tom Calder - Bass
Tom's bass carries the tune and always adds something more as it leads the melody a little farther.
Tom used the same bass as the last two albums. "Coyote heard this really cool standup bass guy the other day and commented how one of his early guitar teachers of the folk rock band, Kenny Rogers & The First Edition, used to jam with him and their acoustic guitars. He says that was in the mid sixties. Anyway, Coyote wanted me to play those walking bass lines and told me about when he was a Boogie Woogie piano player in elementary school. So, even though I had some brand new bass strings, we used the same strings I've been playing for two years, since I recorded the Christ Killer album."
"Coyote's idea worked, but it made my bass harder to tune and the harmonics were kinda dead. So today, May 2008, I'm restringing my bass to recut about half the album again--with new bass strings.
