Jeff McAleer

About me:

Hello, my name is Jeff McAleer. We got that out of the way at least! I’m currently 41 years old (in fact my birthday is October 24th, 1967) and as of this writing I live in Chicago, Illinois where I was born and have spent more than 30 years. I’ve also lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for two years; Phoenix, Arizona for six; and traveled to just about all of our 50 states. My long time friends and family will tell you that I’m a bit of a nomad. An “American Nomad” as a matter of fact. I believe they sometimes mean it as a derogatory term yet I tend to look at it as a greatly beneficial trait.

I’ve been an ardent blogger and podcaster since 2005 sharing my thoughts and opinions on just about every subject under the sun. I happen to be a liberally minded individual who has absolutely no qualms (nor fears) regarding voicing and publishing my views - that's what A Mind Forever Wandering has always been about. For more than four and a half years I wrote (and also recorded over 260 podcasts) about politics, social issues, and just about any other subject that popped into my head. Some people really enjoyed what I produced, others took great offense, while still others stayed on the fence.

I’m a jack-of-all-trades and have held a number of titles and positions throughout my working career. Dealing with the public in some way or form tends to be a common thread that has woven its way throughout my life; be it face to face or in less intimate settings. My career related past can be found at my LinkedIn page. I really enjoy people and try my best to take them one at a time. If you take people on as a whole, many times in general you can find a lot of disappointment. When you try to see individuals with wants, fears, needs, hopes, dreams and all their other wonderful aspects you tend to see humanity in a much brighter light.

As far as my personal views, I find these truths to be self evident:

1. Everyone has value regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other damn thing that people use to differentiate others from themselves. There is no "us" or "them." There is only US! Us, as in humanity!

2. Debate and differing opinions drive thought and real change. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and has the right to voice them, regardless of how unpopular they might be. Free Speech is spoken around these parts!

3. At the end of the day, each and every one of us is responsible for the decisions we make. No one else; There is no fate or preordained path.

4. All Americans are entitled to the same rights as every other American regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or... YOU GET THE PICTURE!

5. America is a great country!!! But not as great as we once were. I believe in promoting people to look at every side of every story and THINK FOR THEMSELVES! Don't just swallow every hook, line, and sinker tossed your way out there. Sure we have troubles (in fact many more than some people would like to admit) but the good surely outweighs the bad. Only by taking the time, energy, and intelligence to see where our country has gone off course and changing our direction can we hope to once again be a beacon of hope and freedom throughout the world...
