Label Nights : Supplement Facts
Guy Gerber

Israeli pioneer of electronic music, Guy Gerber has repeatedly startled the world with his personal vision of techno which he intertwines with unique and cleverly designed melodies that never leave the listener indifferent. Owner of the label Supplement Facts, he has found the best means of communicating his passion for harmony and rhythm.
All this success may have been a surprise to Guy if youd told him when he was 15 how his life might turn out. As a member of his native Israels Under 16s national football team, he started to play guitar and very quickly his love of football was replaced by an obsession with music. Listening to bands like Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Soft Cell, and The Beach Boys, Guy established a unique understanding for music that has informed his musical development, and from which flows his unique sound of bittersweet harmonies, natural mixture of strong and deep grooves, and futuristic bass lines.
Awards in his homeland have come thick and fast with him collecting Israeli Music Associations award for The Best Israeli Electronic Artist" in 2003, while Israel's MTV and leading dance music magazine awarded him "Best Electronic Producer" in 2003 and the award for "Best Export Artist in 2005. Guy has also received acclaim in his homeland for his composing for contemporary dance arts in Israel, working alongside the world-renowned choreographers Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal.
In his field he is in the premier league of touring DJ/producers.
He spent this summer in residency at Space in Ibiza, winning the much coveted prize of Best Minimal House DJ.
With his own label receiving rave reviews his status can only grow - a status that had already caught the attention of major transatlantic r'n'b stars, (rumours are rife of a collaboration with P Diddy in 2010).
Recently moved to Paris, Guy is currently finishing off his 2nd album, (Life Transmission) and nurturing new releases on Supplement Facts. Look out for gigs showcasing his exciting label this autumn.

VarOslav

( Supplement Facts / Dirt Crew / Je t'aime Records ) France
Varoslav a 30 year old Parisian of Czech origin, DJ/producer whizzkid who's worked with the A to Z of young French electronic talent. Inspired by black music from hip hop to nineties house. His passion for music quickly led him to spin records (playing at some of the best Parisian clubs), and naturally his desire to play his own sounds pushed him to production.
Varoslav describes his music as coming 'from the heart'. His groovy, sexy and energetic style sliding from techno to deep house was, amongst others, influenced by his meetings with David K and later Guy Gerber, who he's currently working with on the label, Supplement Facts. Completely self-taught, he got involved in music and released his first productions on digital labels. His first vinyl release came out in April 2008 on the Spanish label Tishomingo. Since then, he’s collaborated with artists like dOP,Okain,Yakine,David K., releasing acclaimed tracks such as Inside Ways, I love Us, and the Family EP, all on a variety of labels. These releases have seen his reputation as one of the most exciting new DJ/producer talents grow at an astonishing rate. The admiration from his peers has allowed to him play some of the finest clubs in Europe, including the Panorama Bar and Weekend club in Berlin, the Silo [Leuven], Studio 80 [Amsterdam], Underground in Ibiza and the Montreux Jazz festival this summer.
At present, his time is taken up with being not only an exclusive artist on Supplement Facts, but also producer and label artistic director. On the side is his "Don’t Stop“ bootleg cracker that's on heavy rotation with people like Ricardo Villalobos and Ellen Allien. Not forgetting a busy autumn gigging schedule. Catch this busy man at a European location near you soon.
Thomas Melchior

Throughout his career, minimal house producer Thomas Melchior has stayed dedicated to the underground, maintaining a low profile. After twenty years of music production, he's still at the cutting edge of music. It's been a long journey, geographically and musically speaking: Jazz funk, electronica, trip hop, house and techno via Germany, USA, Spain, UK, Brazil and then naturally back to Berlin.
His work has found homes on labels like Perlon, Playhouse and Cadenza - each of which has released crucial parts of the Melchior discography in the past six years. A believer in the almost spiritual power of minimalism, his work has been delicately described as "mystic, contemplative, warm and pensive". Ricardo Villalobos said of Melchior's 2004 LP 'The Meaning': "The later the evening, the more of a fan you become".
Let the man take you on an emotional glide on an emotive spacecraft.
Quenum

( Cadenza, Orac, Soma, Trapez, Clapper... ) Switzerland
DJ/producer Philippe Quenum is a long-time player with a resumé that could kill a rainforest! You would need a lifetime to track down his extensive discography, from his own recording labels to other highly recognized imprints. He founded Access 58 in London with Paulo Nascimento, Cadenza with Luciano and Num records in Geneva. Together with Luciano he composed the first release on Cadenza, “Orange Mistake” - one of the most successful techno tracks of the last ten years.
In all, Quenum has released over 60 records, including on Contexterrior, Cadenza, Orac, Soma, Trapez, Alphahouse and Toys for Boys. His tracks appear on close to 20 compilations and on labels such as Fabric (Carl Craig), NovaMute and Cocoon. His most recent project is Clapper, a new label founded with his friend and frequent studio partner Dachsund. Going back in time, Quenum has worked professionally as a DJ since the early 80’s.
He gained a decade of experience living in London in the 90’s before settling with his family in Geneva. He credits his childhood in Africa and his family background for his musical taste. He was also influenced by hip-hop culture and an early career as a breakdancer. In his sets, Quenum takes techno and house into tribal heights with a more or less experimental edge, both slamming and deep. His flawless mixing technique and live sets are constantly redefining and upgrading abstract electronic dance music. Apart from DJing and his recording work, Quenum is always open to new challenges. He has composed music for documentaries, as well as played live for fashion shows in London (Natural History Museum Fashion Week). Quenum is a keen experimenter, and his productions are known to be simple yet rich in detail. As a DJ, he never forgets that his first duty is to the crowd of people who have come together looking for a joyful experience and a moment of freedom. He is, first and foremost, a crowd-pleaser. Look out for exciting releases on his new label Clapper due to launch mid September 2009.
Michel Cleis
( Cadenza / Strictly Rhythm / Rekids / Supplement Facts ) Switzerland
Recently quoted as being "this year's breakthrough producer" by Pete Tong, Michel Cleis' vibrant, joyful, ethno-electronic productions are currently enthralling audiences around the globe. Gilles Peterson is a big fan, future collaborations between the two are not unlikely.
The man behind the groove is a hedonist. He grew up in the Italian part of Switzerland, with soul music and jazz as his main influence, and kept up his eclecticism by opening up to rock and techno - the man also quotes Italian singer-song writer Lucio Battisti as one of his greatest heroes. Varied and electic but always warm and ear-friendly.
Michel Cleis also remixed Spencer Parker's track "The Beginning", which came out in June 2009 on Buzzin' Fly Records. Michel grabs the riff, adds some metallic congas, and works it up into a flickering, driving, modern tribal groove that saw rewinds in last Miami. Dropped into Luciano's lap, it then became a centrepiece track on Buzzin' Fly's subsequent US tour, and is currently bringing the house down on Spencer's Australian dates. Last year's Ibizi stormer, La Mezcla, originally out on Cadenza records, is about to be re-released on Strictly Rhythm on Oct 5th. Also keep your ears open for a remix of his appearing on Skunk Anansie's Best Of, out this November on One Little Indian.
Masaya

( Num - Mina - Perspectiv ) Chile - Switzerland Producer, Dj and label owner, Claudia Ayala likes playing with words in the same manner she manipulates sound. Her pseudonym Masaya refers to her surname, Ayala and also attests to her will to push forwards and explore the electronic world as “mas alla” means “further” in Spanish, which is the mother tongue of this young Chillean Swiss miss.
Hooked on clubbing from an early age, Masaya haunted all the major clubs between Geneva and Zurich. As the years passed she was captivated by new sounds, progressive house and then electro. On her return from a trip to Ibiza, she entered a DJ competition. After having only improvised only a few weeks behind the turntables, she wanted to test the feeling of playing to a dance floor. Paul Okenfold, member of the jury, gave her an enlightening pep talk before her set and her ensuing performance won her a residence at the famous D! Club, one of the most prestigious house clubs of all time. It is now 5 years that Masaya's been performing regularly in the old cinema reconverted into a temple of the night. 5 years marked by a progressive evolution towards minimal, liquid house, haunted by muffled, dubby vibrations. Her universe has seduced many, and today, she not only plays regularly throughout Switzerland but her charms have also spread internationally to places such as Trieste, Rome and Belgium. Since 2005 Claudia Ayala started producing, and following a handful of maxis released on labels such as NUM, Perspectiv or Meerestief, she decided to create her own stable: Mina Records. “Mina means” girls” or “chicks” in Spanish, she explains “I wanted to nourish the feminine touch in music, be it produced by a man or a woman, and sustain the music I love by choosing and suggesting it to others” Among some of the artists she has signed are; René Breitbarth, Dana Ruh or Clara Moto. Mina Records has just brought out its 6th production.
