The Sun has moved astrologically into the sign of Sagittarius, the Archer, which is associated with the planet Jupiter.
No matter your Sun sign, this Sagittarian time of year features
competitive activities of all sorts, generosity and warmth of spirit,
lots of socialization, journeys or other explorations that frequently
open you up to new ideas or new experiences, and unexpected outbursts
of passion (good or bad) that usually do not indicate long term
feelings or states of mind. Negatively, it can be a time where
meanness, pettiness, and stinginess appear in people, where humans can
suddenly be revealed to be incredibly self-serving and egotistical, and
some very grand delusions may become obvious. You may be confronted
with the knowledge that you have been used or that you have been using
others. Gambling and risky behavior is more prominent at this
time...though the success of that choice is not guaranteed.
The Sagittarii were actually horse-mounted archers
of the ancient world, and thus the frequent idea that the creature and
constellation Sagittarius is a Centaur. The most skilled and feared
mounted archers were the ancient Parthians, notorious for appearing to
be in retreat, luring the enemy to follow, and then twisting their
bodies around in the saddle to fire a fatal shot: the "Parthian Shot." From this comes the
familiar expression the "parting shot," dealt cruelly and adeptly after
a conversation is thought finished.
The
Sun has astrologically moved into the sign of Scorpio, The Scorpion.
However, Scorpio is a very complicated sign and is the only zodiacal
creature with 4 beasts to represent it. Each symbolizes the degree of
spiritual development/motivation possible with a Scorpio influence:
least evolved is The Lizard, commonly evolved is The Scorpion, nobly
evolved is The Eagle, and the rare epitome is The Phoenix or Firebird.
When the Sun moves through Scorpio, ruled by Pluto, it is a time of
life and death matters, possibly literally, but also metaphorically: a
life-altering decision or choice is made or forced; a life-changing
event happens; a person or a situation reaches the utter depths of
degradation or despair, and all is in ruins -- so you either are
destroyed by it or use the devastation as a starting point for
something new. Deception and revelation are equally likely at this
time; important things that were hidden are either revealed (passive)
or discovered (active), sexuality and reproduction issues arise, large
transfers of money, property, power, or other valuables occur, and
things either come to an end or are eliminated purposefully.
The
Firebird or Phoenix is found in many ancient mythologies, from Asia to
to Europe to North Africa to the Americas. It is a creature living 500
to 1000 years, and when it is time to die, it sets itself aflame on a
pyre anointed with herbs and spices appropriate to each culture's
funerary practices. Consumed utterly by fire, reduced to ashes, it
rises renewed and very often better than it was in its previous
incarnation. The word "Phoenix" comes from ancient Phoenicia, one of
the earliest human civilizations to tell of the bird.

In October I have to wrap up researching and writing a book and
study for graduate school entrance exams and drop a ton of weight.
So I apologize in advance if I turn into a little monster occasionally in the next five weeks.
The first time I was in college,
I paid my tuition by doing old-fashioned, handmade natal astrological
charts and delineations. The
Sun has astrologically progressed into the sign of Libra, the Scales or
Balance, which is associated with the weighing of things and assessing
their value. The planet traditionally assigned rulership over Libra is
Venus, the planet associated with love, art, and beauty. In the
Northern Hemisphere, it is the time of the Autumnal Equinox where
everyone has reaped what they have sown many months ago, and now there
is a reckoning of their hard work and of the worth of what they have
produced. Libra is a time when we make decisions--rational, sometimes
hard decisions--about relationships, intimate, social, or business, a
time when justice must be served, where balance must be restored in
ourselves and in the situations of our lives. Action demands to be
taken: action that restores harmony, beauty, happiness, righteousness.
Creative solutions and communications are strong in the nature of
Libra/Venus, as is dignity and grace, without yielding to weakness in
resolve. The power of persuasion is emphasized. Lovely
Lady Godiva's deliberate riding through town naked upon a horse was a
very shocking, but strong, protest against the injustices being forced
upon the poor by heavy taxation on their goods by those of her own
class: the aristocracy. She felt the poor would have to go about naked
under their increased burden of expenses. It was known in advance that
she would be wandering the streets without clothes, and it is said that
no one in town looked upon her out of respect for her dignity, except
for one man named Tom; this is the origin of the phrase "Peeping Tom."
I used to devote a column to
astrological data on the page, but I've decided to do a monthly message
instead to reach out to my friends, rather than expecting them to stop
by. The first time I was in college, I paid my tuition by doing
old-fashioned, handmade natal astrological charts and delineations.
The Sun has astrologically progressed into the sign of Virgo,
the Maiden, traditionally respresented by a goddess with wheat sheaves,
associated with the Harvest Season in the Northern Hemisphere. The
planet traditionally assigned rulership over Virgo is Mercury. Virgo
thus represents the fullness of a bounty that is about to be claimed,
thus the association with virginal goddesses. With the Sun in Virgo,
it is a time to reap what you have sown this year, for better or worse,
a time to attend to details and to focus on hard work, apply your
practical smarts to things and decision-making for the coming Fall and
Winter, to be concerned with health and well-being, to socialize with
co-workers and neighbors, and a time to write and communicate.
Xochiquetzal is the ancient Aztec goddess of harvest, and the crop
especially associated with her is the food of the gods: cacao, from
which chocolate is made. It's rough to celebrate chocolate while also
tending to health and well-being, but I'll try hard to work it
out.
Try to not miss me too much in the next month while I am
frequently away working on my fifth book. LOL. I may only pop in and out
here two or three days a week! Trying HARD to get some more discipline
into my life.
I'll put my light out when I'm working on the computer sometimes, so if
you have my chat ID, you can say hi if you want or need to talk.
Otherwise, just know I won't be right on top of messages left
here...but I'm not ignoring you.
I used to sing in a capella ensembles in
high school, so this wonderful performance was really amazing and fun
to me. The beginning is wild.....turn it up.
Most people would agree that California is The Land of Excess. What a lot of people forget is that California is also The Land of Plenty. We have some of the biggest forests, rivers, mountains, lakes, and agricultural areas in the world. In late April and in May, we have more strawberries than we know what to do with. So many cities and towns have Strawberry Festivals around May Day, even places outsiders think of as being only populated by unnaturally gorgeous, wealthy, snobby people living and working in skyscraping buildings (if you've never been to California, you have no idea what this place is REALLY like). And every restaurant, large or small, is advertising their most beautiful and delicious Strawberry Specialties for very low prices because there is SO MUCH. For my friends here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are in the fullness of Spring. For my friends here who are in the Southern Hemisphere, you are six short weeks from winter. I hope abundant May finds you with all you need. How much more blessed are you if you also have all you WANT. At any rate, may you be surrounded by friends to share it with. A May Day wish from Miss Yvonne.
See you Thursday
