Amir Haghighi's passionate Persian traditional vocals backed by gorgeous sounds of persian instruments (frame drums, tar, setar, santur), plus the deft harp playing and subtle background vocals of partner Amy Stephen. Intensely beautiful treatment of Persian folk songs & classical poetry.
Amir Haghighi was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and grew up singing traditional Persian music. Amir has appeared at the Vancouver International Folk Festival, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Vancouver International Children's Festival, the Chan Centre with the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra, the Vancouver Sacred Music Festival, Global Discoveries Festival, Inter-spiritual Chantfest, Persian Cultural Conferences and events in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, Geneva, Paris, Amsterdam, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Featured as a soloist and composer in the award-winning Canadian documentary "Music for a New World", Amir's musical inspiration comes mainly from the spiritual, mystical elements of the great mystical Persian poets: Rumi, Hafiz, Saadi and others. Through his singing, Amir communicates the passion of life in all its joy, and sadness... he crosses every cultural boundary and goes straight to the heart....
Dear Mr. Haghighi. I can not tell you how many times I have listened to To Beyo. Your voice is both full of pain and joy. Amazing. My regards to your lovely family.
I am working with the Children's Festival and my colleagues told me that you had the best voice ever heard in Canada. It is true, your performance with the international band gave me shivers. Hoping to get the chance to hear you live some day...
Hi to all my MySpace friends around the world! I don't usually use Myspace to promote my own beliefs, but I was recently asked to sign a very important online petition asking international bodies like the WTO and IMF to work to rid the world of child labour. There are so many children suffering in this world so that we can enjoy cheap luxuries and an easy life. There is not much we can do as individuals, but this we CAN do. It's easy...one click and you're there, one more click and you've made a difference! I spent the first half of my life in Hong Kong (I'm 13 now) and I've seen little kids in Southern China exploited and vulnerable. I always remember that but for an accident of birth, I could have been one of those children. I'm not asking you to run a marathon or anything...just move your mouse here: http://www.icftu.org/petition.asp?Name=childlabour - and do the right thing. Thank you and have a great summer! Aysha.
