The city of Newark rests high on layers of crucial American history. To pay homage to this history, as well as reference Newark's pending evolution as an urban art center, the directors of Jajo are proud to present BANG BANG.
Artists such as the Enger Brothers, Heather Hart, and Roy Rosado have chosen to depict this urban setting while referencing Western imagery and traditional American ideology. By combining abstracted compositions with a more figurative language, these artists are able to marry Newark's past with it's present.

I woke up from a dream that I was in a writing workshop led by Amiri Baraka and after a lecture which including him drawing elaborate hieroglyphics with colored chalk on a black board he gave us a writing assignment. For some ambiguous, buried in obscurity reasons, I couldn't get myself together enough to write anything until a few minuets before Mr. Baraka returned but then I wrote, Vicious mendacity festering like an open score in the garbage can of his/tory. He’s my son she said – yeah but he’s our Nigger they replied. She loved him, they loathed him; the struggle for his soul has gone on for an eternity. Where the lie began is a moot point, I have started telling different stories that feature some other characters who practice alternative aesthetics; that and drawing new hieroglyphics on the cave walls of the modern world. ~J.
