Based in Brighton, Amongst the Pigeons is a place inhabited by soaring loops and the beating of electronic wings. Discovered in early 2005 via the talk-speak places internet people huddle, ATP grew forth.
Radio One’s Rob Da Bank was quick to champion tracks (Firefly and the classic la la la la la laa song) from seminal EP release, ‘wings wings: beat’, which also slunk their way onto XFM, Juice, WCRfm, and Radio Reverb.
Contrary to the posters that have appeared on Brighton streets, CAT was not lost - just hiding, honing, purrfecting…
DJ slots and remixes for upwardly mobile Brighton musical outfits - Miss Pain, Largo & The Collector - have provided whisker fuelled entertainment since 2006, as has extensive beat-mongering in aid of ATP’s first full length LP.
‘Music to brush your teeth to’ (completed winter 2008) features 16 tracks of blips, beats, samples and some rather special guests, such as Frank Turner, Beans on Toast and up and coming artists Ollie Barron and Steph MacGregor.
With samplers being played out to general satisfaction on XFM, Radio1, 6 Music and Mary Anne Hobbs’s experimental show and a tour being lined up for mid 2009, CAT is currently preparing to release this new LP into the wild…

Reviews, Quotes:
"Short, Sweet & a Tad JAZZY"
Rob Da Bank - Radio One
"Amongst The Pigeons has made a rather lovely album, maintaining a distinctly unlo-fi feel to his dreamy electro-house. It really is the sound of a radiant summer."
Dannii Leivers - The Fly
"A Bizarre collection of electronica propped up with sampled poetry, ticket collectors and random you tube."
NC - Brighton Source
"From wonderfully warm house to spasmodic IDM via trippy stories and scathing satire, there appears to be nothing he's incapable of."
David Jenkins - iDJ Magazine
"BRIGHTON-based dance DJ Amongst The Pigeons has scrubbed up well on his first offering.
On first listen you wonder where the LP is going, meandering about in a world of blips and subdued beats. But then the individual tracks get you - like the fantastic lo fi Frank Turner collaboration Lakin or smile-raising weirdness such as Bird Flew - and you realise that Music To Brush Your Teeth To is like one long quirky interlude from start to finish.."
Isaac Ashe - Sound Advice
"It comes together well on the bleepy, clanging Bird Flew, or the lush The Red Lights That Guide You Home (Part One), or the gentle beats and newscast style sample of On A Train (In Holland) it’s really good dance music with mixed tempo’s.
But when you can give Lemon Jelly a run for their money with a track like If You Unwrap The Wrapper You Leave Me Exposed or get Frank Turner to record with you on Larkin About then you are certainly on he right lines. ."
Kevin Trotter - The Beat Surrender
"Is it a bird is a plane no it’s a cat amongst the pigeons.
Meet Cat also known as Amongst The Pigeons, see what he’s done there, his real name is Cat and records as Amongst The Pigeons, oh nevermind!! He explains all on the opening title track to ‘Music To Brush Your Teeth To’. Anyway meet him and gorgeous little bubbly album, which make the mundane like brushing teeth, and watching birds, in fact there’s a bit of a bird and a pigeon theme going on throughout this album, and traffic lights, and makes them otherworldly on this electronic bath of an album.
Amongst The Pigeons is essentially a lo, lo, lo, lo-fi or no-fi and even gloriously nerdier version of Hot Chip. But his album ‘Music To Brush Your Teeth To’ is a lot more intriguing than and will make you’re brain bug out and probably make it feel a bit drained. Some of the tracks such as ‘Bird Flew’ sound like someone is drilling (a dentists drill) a hole through your brain (or your teeth, no pun intended).
Then there are more otherworldly and quite frankly surreal tracks such as ‘Trouble On The Deathstar’ and ‘Pavlov’s Pigeon’. Then there’s poetry delivered by Frank Turner in an echoed voice, in the falling down a bottomless pit feeling and cut up effects of ‘Larkin About.’ Then there’s the Boards Of Canada-esque doomtronica of ‘The Red Lights That Guide You Home (Part One)’, there’s a part two at the end of the record, so there’s darker tone on the records chirpy underbelly, and then there’s some surreal news being reported of pigeons being trained as athletes in China on ‘On A Train (In Holland)’ could this be a swipe at societies fascination with meaningless news and information which seems to be increasing and never ending. Then there’s a 6 minute loop a thon on ‘The Trial And The Beats’ which is about the only track over 2 minutes long, and has something of Mr Scruffs via Aphex Twin eclecticism about it. Then there’s a story being read on ‘The Old Bill Move Fast’, where the guy sounds like Damon Albarn, then continuing with the pigeon theme, there’s the tweeting and fairly simple electronic in comparison to most tracks on here of ‘Love Pigeons.’ And then there’s a dark and disturbingly erotic slice of drum ‘n’ bass on ‘A.T.P.D.N.B.’
Mary Anne Hobbs and Rob Da Bank has already championed this on late nights on Radio 1, but unless they getting mid-morning slot anytime soon there’s little to no chance of this getting daytime exposure which is a shame really. But then this is more than a good secret to keep to yourself, but whilst you do you might as well enjoy it.."
Ben Bradford - Subba Culture
"An interesting array of noises, shapes and soundscapes that take you from one corner of the speaker to another! Brilliant."
Katy Jay - WCRfm (101.8fm)
"Indie electronica meets classic detroit techno - quality result!"
Rich from solitonresearch.coml
"Pure dark ambient beat's that will make the hair's on the back of your neck stand and take notice. Definitely a future classic. 2009 will be ATP's year"
Darran Mackin from the midweek mixtape show
"The results of investigating this four track demo are positive.....there's something engaging about these ever so slightly blissful tracks that make Amongst The Pigeons well worth keeping an eye on"
RockMidgets.com - Demo Review
"Truely great set - had everyone dancing and crying out for more"
