Sounds Like
A Month of Sundays. AMOS prides itself on being a straightforward rock and roll band with solid writing producing melodic rockers and a ballad or two thrown in for good measure. While they have been significantly influenced by the aforementioned bands they remain dedicated to producing their own unique sound.
In 2006 A Month of Sundays (AMOS) released its second album, "Easier Said Than Done," which was described by critics variously as "excellent, effective, unique and poignant, intriguing, unexpected, smart, straightforward and timeless." "Easier Said Than Done" cast aside any notion of a sophomore slump by capturing two Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) awards for "Best Pop Rock Group" and "Best Pop Rock Album." Originally formed in 2001 by Ed Moreland, Jim and Chris Russell, and Brad Brooks, AMOS quickly blended their far reaching songwriting influences and wrote, recorded, and released their debut album, "Click," to critical acclaim. In addition to positive press, it also garnered a 2002 "Best Rock Recording of the Year" nomination as well as 2003 nominations for "Best Rock Group" and "Best Rock Vocalist" from WAMA. Years 2004 and 2005 witnessed featured guest appearances on a number of local radio stations, as well as more WAMA nominations, this time for "Best Vocalist", "Best Instrumentalist" and "Best Rock Group". While riding their newfound popularity as a live act in the region, AMOS was proud to earn the opportunity in 2005 to represent the DC area by playing in Austin, Texas, alongside some of DC's finest musicians at the South by Southwest Music Festival sponsored by OnTap Magazine. With the recent addition of a fifth member, bassist Ryan Fletcher, AMOS is looking forward to raising the bar on an already entertaining live show and proving the critics right who describe them as "the real thing, pros through and through, and a band that truly shines."
A Month of Sundays’ sound and writing has been critically compared to The Smithereens, Frank Black (Pixies), the BoDeans, and Sheryl Crow, with one reviewer suggesting a smidgeon of Husker Du and Sonic Youth lurking within the band’s sound. Brad, Chris, and Jim are childhood friends and earned their chops paying homage to many blues artists, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles—and various BritPop influences. Add a lot of Ed’s more modern influences and folk music sense, and Ryan's ear toward the extremes of hard rock you hear a bright and rich mixture of fresh writing atop a solid, tried and true rock-n-roll underpinning.
"Easier Said Than Done" features 14 songs. A self-distributed 4-song EP from this album began circulating in February 2005 and attracted frequent radio play on Z104 FM in the Washington, DC, area, and on WRNR 103.1 FM in Annapolis, MD.
