One of the newest projects to hit the streets is ARTWORK MBILASHAKA. The artist collective is made up of Aniekan, Per-A Jahlion, PJ Herring, Wes Clark, Feijao, Jamal Smith, BUCK!, Gerald Watson and DJ Two-Tone Jones. The seven artists and dj work in collaboration to create painted 7x5 compositions in front of a live audience . Using the environment and the African aesthetic as inspiration - a heavy bass, a steady beat, and the funk oriented crowd to create a vibe that can only be described as INTENSE. The painters instantly blend ideas onto the canvas, sampled from sketchbook images, Polaroids, old photographs, pop iconography and brush techniques. With each painting taking about 4 hours to complete, the process is a challenge of graphic resourcefulness; the live aspect compresses the painting experience into spontaneous reactions of time, space and energy. The result is without a dout a documentation that captures the mood, sounds and electricity of the environment.
