Four days at the beach and then a day of pampering. Talk to you upon my return. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!Posted at 11:16 PM Nov 25 from Twitterview more
Learning, inquiry, growing, others who are interested in the same. Helping people - with a leg up, a smile, or any other way that comes to mind. Growing my business. Art, art and more art. Music, too! My newest interest: Teaching.
Vacation: Warm, clean, deserted beaches with cool breezes and a beverage to match - or experiencing new cultures - or better yet, both! If you'd like a closer look at the images in the slideshow, click on "Pics" under the statonary image above.
Music
"How do you dare step into my flame?" Duran Duran, James Angell, Bel Canto, Nik Kershaw, and the Dandy Warhols ("Welcome to the Monkeyhouse").
Royksopp (Melody A.M.), Lisa Loeb, Japan, David Sylvian (Samidisound in my friends), Steely Dan, Arcadia, Steven Jansen, Elton John (though mostly his work in the '70s) ... plus a very long list of varied and eclectic artists.
Amelie was really a good one. The Dark Knight, Nights in Rodanthe.
Television
Meh. Not much of anything other than PBS right now.
Books
"1984" - George Orwell, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" - Johnathan Safran Froer, "The Odyssy" - Homer, "The Vampire Lestat" - Anne Rice.
Heroes
I don't think anyone needs to be put on a pedestal. We are all human, no matter what our circumstances or achievements.
Having said that ...
I admire what some people are up to in the world/appreciate their commitment to making a difference. And highly creative people, such as Laurie Anderson.

The key is ... "[Life] Doesn't have to be serious!"
Graduated with a BFA from Marylhurst University, where I studied under Portland artists Marlene Bauer, Paul Sutinen and Dennis Cunningham. Since graduating, I have continued to explore new artistic possibilities through encaustic workshops with Portland artist Elise Wagner, as well as general workshops on creativity and texture. In 2008 I was one of 33 artists in the state of Washington selected to participate in Artist Trust's EDGE Professional Business Development Program - a week-long intensive program on the business of art.
My travels have taken me to locals around the world, but I choose to call Vancouver Washington home. This exposure to other cultures definitely has an impact on the background texture of my art - and who I am as a person.
My commitment is to connect with the viewer on a personal level – stirring buried emotions to the surface for further inspection and introspection. The inspiration for my work comes from direct observations, deeper research of subjects I'm passionate about and personal experiences.
I was juried into the International Society of Acrylic Painters as a Signature Member in 2002 and retain that status today. I have been accepted into national and international level exhibitions by distinguished jurors such as: Robert Rosenblum – curator, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, New York City; Thomas W. Lentz – Elizabeth and John Moors Cabot Director, Harvard University Art Museums; and Janet Koplos – Senior Editor, Art in America magazine. Notable exhibitions I have participated in include the Cambridge Art Association’s 10th Annual National Prize Show in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the International Society of Acrylic Painter’s 10th Annual International Exhibition in San Luis Obispo, California and the Soho20 Chelsea Gallery’s 2003 Spring Juried Show in New York City.
Please visit my website at www.amybuchheit.com for additional information. I also have beautiful, reasonably priced, framable notecards, small artworks and other items available for sale at www.AmyBuchheit.etsy.com. I can be reached for questions, comments or to purchase work via email at amy@amybuchheit.com, or at P.O. Box 873112, Vancouver, WA 98687-3112.
Some comments about my work:
"When I rounded the corner and saw this one [“Life Force”], I knew I had to acknowledge it in some way. It is so brilliant, and the texture just begs to be touched. ... some of the colors are just so rich, like velvet, they ask to be caressed. I just wanted to run my hands over it.” - Julie Anne Poncet, Assistant Curator, Portland Art Museum.
“That’s fantastic! If [you aren't
] already a professional, [you] should be.” - John Taylor, bassist for Duran Duran and former art major.
“Your artwork is beautiful! You are extremely talented. When I look at your work it makes me feel soothed.” – Sandra Sharp-Meekcoms, Owner, Emerge Medical Spa, Portland, OR.
"We want you in next year's show ... Your participation really brings something to the show." - Philp Kenton, curator of the Gresham Art Advisory Committee's annual contemporary exhibition.
"Your work is beautiful" - Lisa Rose Musselwhite, co-curator "Con-tem-po-ra-ry Birth of the New II" exhibition and member of the Gresham Art Advisory Committee.
My art can be found in the collections of Clark College, Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington, and private collections across the United States as well as the United Kingdom. I show locally (in the Portland Metropolitan Area) and abroad.
If you would like to know about upcoming shows, feel free to ask to be added as a friend, and subscribe to my blog. You can also contact me at amy@amybuchheit.com. I would love to hear from you!
PERSONAL:
Music is a huge inspiration. I thrive on it to create.
Artists who are passionate about their art, *and* treat it like a business. My favorite musicians, particularly if they would like to use my work for a CD ;o)
Kind, compassionate, caring, thoughtful, creative individuals. Those who enjoy having a great time and not afraid to be goofy, yet sit down and have serious conversations. Those who think of others, and like to explore things important to them. People who live life PASSIONATELY and are interested in sharing that. Those who have similar interests to me, but are not a photocopy of myself. People who say what they mean and are honest. I like to know what you are really thinking and feeling ... as long as there is a compassionate component to it.
Hello! Hope your weekend is going well. I just thought I would connect
with you, don't know when you last visited, but I have some new music
up on my page. If you have a chance, please drop in. Thanks.

Good morning...I just had this sent to me. It's a short film directed and edited by Tatjana Rhodes(Nick's daughter). Nick makes a cameo in this as the Photographer. Check it out...
When life comes at you out of the darkness, who will you choose to face it with? Will they be wise? Will their love for you help them to lead you to the light, or will they lose their way in the darkness? Will they make noble choices, or will that person be someone untested, someone new? Life comes rushing at you from out of the darkness. And when it does, is there someone you can depend on when it does?
You never know where the next miracle is going to come from, the next smile. The next wish come true. But if you believe that it is right around the corner. And you open your heart and mind to the possibility of it. To the certainty of it. You just might get the thing you're wishing for. The world is full of magic. You just have to believe in it. So make your wish. Do you have it? Good. Now believe in it. With all your heart.
Amy, Merry Christmas. i hope your well in all walks of life. i am doing much much much better. thank you for always being such a good person, and taking time to notice my silly antics. =)
