Amy Lou’s Blues is a bunch of hep cats and one sassy kitten who love
swinging jump blues and old school R&B with the cheese-o-meter ranking high
in fun!
Amy Lou’s Blues kicks out an upbeat blues you can dance to, bringing back
the rocking and rolling blues from days gone by with an eclectic mix of
influences and a retro style that makes them unlike any other blues band
around. The band has a lot of energy with a large repertoire that includes a
cool mix of jump blues, old-school R&B, swing, gospel, 50's rock and roll,
boogie-woogie, rockabilly, down-in-the-alley blues, and some funk to keep
things twisting. Playing some standards, some little-known gems, and some
original tunes, the grooves and beats are as diverse as Amy Lou's hat
collection!
This energetic band features Amy Lou on blues-shouting vocals, sass and
swagger. Amy Lou is on a mission to share her love and joy of old-school
music. She grew up as the oldest child of deaf parents, so she has a strong
need to be heard! When she gets going, things really start to sizzle; when
she asks the crowd for an amen, she gets it! Amy Lou’s favorite singers are
Ruth Brown, Etta James, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Wynona Carr, Big Maybelle and Wanda Jackson. She loves singing the blues and you can see it, you can feel it and you sure as hell believe it! She has a real love and feel for the
blues and from day one, has had a desire to keep the music of the women in
blues alive. Whether she is walking the bar to a happy crowd up close and
personal, or tearing it up on stage, Amy Lou is one be-bopping R&B mama!
Amy Lou’s Blues has some of the bay area's finest blues musicians. The mad
guitar stylings of Scott Miller range from uptown fast-fingered tasty chops
down to that early greasy dirt tone that takes it back in the alley. Gary
Rosen keeps things jumping and tight on the bass, both electric and
stand-up. He has played with many greats in the bay area for over 30 years,
including performances at the SF Blues festival and backing up legends such
as Lightnin' Hopkins, Lowell Fulson, and Mary Wells. Luke Piro on drums has
been hitting them hard since he was 5 years old! A most excellent drummer
with precise dynamics and a cool retro style. Rounding off the band is
Scott Porter on piano and organ. He has been active in the bay area live
music scene since the early 90’s and has developed his own uniquely
merciless blues piano-pounding technique. All five band members sing lead
and backup harmony vocals, including all the "oo-wahs," "yep-yeps," and
"uh-HUHs" you could ever want. Good God ya'll!
For the last four years, Amy Lou’s Blues has been building a following all
over the bay area with blues lovers who want straight up jump blues and a
good time! Currently, Amy Lou is busy working on the bands popular originals
for the bands upcoming CD. There is good rockin’ tonight with Amy Lou’s
Blues!
