   About Amy X Neuburg
Amy X Neuburg is best known for her one-woman "avant-cabaret" performance pieces for voice and live electronics. In her live shows Amy accompanies herself with electronic drums, samples and real-time looping to build up layers of her voice, and gives a dramatic, diva-esque performance. Her songs are diversely influenced and sung in various styles -- from rock to classical to avant-garde -- over a nearly four-octave vocal range. She has performed at clubs, theaters, festivals, schools and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad; highlights include the Berlin Intl. Poetry Festival, the Bang on a Can and Other Minds Festivals, 2 New Zealand tours, and frequent New York appearances (Roulette, Joe's Pub, etc.)

Amy has composed extensively for modern dance, experimental film and video, art installations, chamber ensembles and web media (including the popular "Piki & Poko in Starland" animations). Recent commissions include works for voice and live-looped ensemble (Present Music, Milwaukee; Santa Cruz New Music Works), a song cycle for 7 looped vocalists (SF Jewish Music Festival), and a site-specific music-theater piece for 15 wandering vocalists (Christchurch Arts Centre, NZ). Her current focus is her new 13-song cycle "The Secret Language of Subways" for voice, electronics and cello trio, to be released on Innova in 2008.

A classically trained vocalist, Amy has been featured in numerous contemporary operas and recordings, including works by Robert Ashley, Culture Clash, and Guillermo Galindo.

Before embarking on a solo career, Amy spent 10 years singing and drumming with her electronic art-rock band Amy X Neuburg & Men. She has produced four CDs of her music -- two solo and two with the Men -- and her voice appears on many others.

Her many grants, residencies and honors include Zellerbach, William & Flora Hewlitt, Meet the Composer, Arts International, The U.S. Embassy New Zealand, LEF, Djerassi, Music Omi, Christchurch Arts Centre, and Phi Beta Kappa.

I just came back from your performance at the Switchboard concert. I was very impressed with your pieces. Such creativity yet clear form which is lacking in a lot of more experimental "artsy" contemporary pieces.

You touch me! You are so fun to listen to, so inspiring...and you let the door open for any composition to take place, -contemporay. I don..t know how to put it...I love it. Both lyrics and the "tangle bangle" of stiles and forms of sounds, are unic, yet very light and accessible, very inspiring. Thank you for being my friend. Love, Ray.
