The Fun Lovin' Criminals (Huey, you're still the man), Motown and Atlantic (I absolutely LOVE the classic Motown and Atlantic sounds of the 60s), Séan Nós (traditional Irish music - I love the sounds of the tin whistle, bódhran, uillean pipes - it literally speaks to me), The Rolling Stones (60s and early 70s - lets pass over the later offerings... AHEM...), Basement Jaxx (gotta have SOME Dance in there), a lot of Old Skool rap (esp. Irish hip-hop: Marxman, Scarey Éire - even the House of Pain and Everlast).
Gotta have Madness in there (even if Suggs has ruined it all by "selling out").
..
Most of my TV comes from way-back-when.
Due South (I just love this show), Northern Exposure (another from back in the day; though really only the first two seasons: but we'll forgive the rest for those two alone), Family Guy (and American Dad!), Lost (until it went one season too many and I just gave up!).
Hafta put in Battlestar Galactica. I LOVE IT! Ok, its not THAT great, admittdely, but its still the best T.V. Sci-Fi I've ever seen. Have you seen better? No? Thought not!
Aside from the above most of my TV watching is news and documentaries (I'm a complete news / politics / current affairs junkie, and Channel 4 News is my prime fix). If there's a documentary on cars (Top Gear doesn't count as a documentary I supose, but I do love it), history, archaeology, millitaria, architecture, science, gadgets, whatever, I'm pretty much there...
* * * * * SCI-FI 'TIL I DIE! * * * * *
Iain M. Banks (a truly great writer, who brought the opera back into space opera! The Culture remains among my favourite literary sci-fi civilizations), Julian May (the Saga of the Pliocene Exiles and the Milieu novels must be read, sci-fi guised as fantasy. Wonderful blend of future speculation, history, Irish and Celtic mythology, etc etc. To understand the sheer sweep and depth of all these interlinked novels you simply have to read them. And NO it's NOT one of those endless derivative, go-on-forever fantasy series which have destroyed so much of the reputation of fantasy and sci-fi literature), J. R. R. Tolkien (not as great as some make out, and certainly not the greatest writer to have ever lived. But still a wonderful author who's imagination and story-telling skills surpassed many lesser - but more literary respectable - writers), David Brin (the Uplift series of books - though somewhat dated in the earliest ones - are still wonderful. And he's a genuinely HUMANITARIAN writer).
China Miéville is my fav writer at the mo. Read his "Perdido Street Station", a brilliantly dark urban fantasy.
Also try Dan Simmon's "Hyperion Cantos". Some might find it hard going but persevere, the story just explodes in the second book.
But the greatest stories of all, the ones I always return to, always will read? Ireland's very own Early Literature, the embodiment of Irish and Celtic Mythology.
And outstanding in that, the Táin Bó Cualgne, the "Cattle-Raid of Cooley", so great it's simply known as An Táin. Not the kiddie or censored or toned down for adults version you may have read in translation, but the real, the original, blood and guts, love and passion, greed and deception, sex and violence, magic and supernatural tale of Heroic Age Ireland.
Nothing can compare to it.
Táin Bó Cúalnge from the Book of Leinster
Some of my favourite web sites for Books and Literature
Leabhair Ghaeilge ó Chló Mhaigh Eo
Mongán mac Fiachna, Cú Chulainn, Fionn mac Cumhaill, the Fianna and the Díbhearaigh, the Men and Women of the Ulster and Fenian Cycles, the Kings' Cycle.
Brian Bóroimhe, Tadhgh Ó Cearnaigh (the first An Sionnach, "the Fox") and the Ó Sionnaigh ("Descendants of the Fox", my ancestors, royal scions of the Uí Néill dynasties, descendants of the High Kings of Ireland, rulers of the kingdom of Teathbha, kings and lords of the central plains of Ireland, among the last to yield to the English and British invaders and colonisers), the Northern and Southern Uí Néill dynasties (my blood and ancestry, aristocratic rulers of Ireland for centuries, founders of peoples and kingdoms, among the premier royalty of early Europe).
The leaders of Gaelic, NATIVE, Ireland and the resistance againt the Scandinavian, Norman-English, Tudor and Elizabethan English invaders and colonisers of our island nation. Those who joined the Flight of the Earls and served in exile with the Wild Geese.
The Society of the United Irishmen of 1798 and 1801, the Young Irelanders, the Irish Republican Brotherhood and Clann na nGael (The Fenian Brotherhood or Fenians), the Irish Invinceables, The Fenian Irish Republican Army and the Fenian Invasions of British North America (Canada). The Members of the Provisonal Government of the Irish Republic (Easter 1916) and the Men and Women of the Army of the Irish Republic (the Irish Volunteers, the Irish Citizen Army, the Hibernian Rifles, Na Fianna Éireann, Cumann na mBan) who began the Irish Revolution, and became the Irish Republican Army (I.R.A.)
The men and women who continued and built upon the Revolution during the War of Independence: Micheál Ó Cóillean (General Micheal Collins), Tomás de Barra (General Tom Barry), Liam Ó Lionsaigh (General Liam Lynch) and many others not least the ordinary soldier, the Óglach or Volunteer of the Irish Republican Army.
Fáilte!
And welcome to my very own MySpace page. So whaddya want to know?
Well I live and work in Cúige Laighean, in Éire.
I have two younger sisters, and a younger brother, George Fox or Seoirse Ó Sionnaigh (a highly sucessful stand-up comedian. Check out his MySpace page for upcoming events, gigs, news and general Foxyness).
I'm a Celt, Gael and Irishman, in that order.
I have long-standing literary and artistic aspirations (probably meaning I write and draw more in hope than any real talent). But I hope some day to publish my writing and artwork. Have real passions for history, archaeology, science, astronomy, architecture, art, cinema, millitaria, etc. All the geeky/nerdy intellectual stuff. But I also like (LOVE!) cars. Jaguar, Maserati and Aston Martin. Let me at 'em!
I'm a cyberjock and technophile since the glory days of IBM, Atari and the Commodore 64 (anyone for Pong?!).
My politics are pure, old fashioned (and deeply unfashionable?) Gaelic Republicanism. Sure, whaddya gonna do? The love that dare not speak it's name, to borrow off Oscar, I have a bad case of the Fenian Fever and fully admit it. Perhaps just as well I'm in a minority of a few dozen on the island. Centrist social-democratic ethno-nationalist Gaelic Republicanism isn't exactly popular ya know - at least not these days. But when you think of the true capital of Ireland as Teamhair (Tara), not Baile Átha Cliath (Dublin), and would do away with the God-awful (and barely democratic) English-style county and town councils and replace them with five truly democrative and representitive provincial legislatures based upon the five Irish provinces, well... I could go on but ya get the idea.
And if that sounds awfully Éire Nua to you, well yes and no; yes I believe in something similar (in parts, at least), no, I'm not some some crypto Official / Provisional Sinn Féin / Workers Party, et al type.
God forbid...! :-)
My hope, dream, and driving ambition is too see the restoration of the All-Ireland Gaelic Republic of 1916 - 1922 through the transformation of the present nation-state of Ireland.
I'm also a Celtic Nationalist, and believe strongly in Pan-Celtic Nationalism as a potential force for democratic, political and cultural change in north-western Europe.
I belive in stronger co-operation between the three Gaelic Nations, Éire (Ireland), Albain (Scotland) and Oileán Mhanann (Isle of Man), for the poltical, economic and cultural benefit of us all, and would hope to see some day a Gaelic equivalent of the Scandianvian Council bringing us all together for our mutual benefit.
The logic of bringing the Gaelic languages together, of standardising their grammer and spelling to a single agreed form based upon An Caighdeán Oifigiúil (Official Standard Modern Irish) is overwhelming. If the Portugeuse and Spanish (and French) can do it so surely can we...

On November 19, 1995, Wem Town Hall in Shropshire, England, an old building built in 1905, was destroyed by fire. Tony O'Rahilly, a local resident, took photos of the spectacle from across the street. One of those photos shows a small, partially transparent girl standing in the doorway. Neither O'Rahilly nor any of the other onlookers or firefighters recalled seeing the girl there. Dr. Vernon Harrison, a photographic expert and former president of the Royal Photographic Society, examined both the print and the original negative, and concluded that it was genuine.
