| Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band, formerly known as Eczema. The band credits their first album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal subgenre dubbed "Medieval metal". The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with raw black metal blastbeats produced by Frost, mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On the next album, The Shadowthrone, this medieval spirit was continued.
Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, frontman Satyr stated in a press release/biography on their homepage that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".
Most recently, the band released a new studio album, Now, Diabolical. The album has generated a great degree of controversy in the black metal underground, due to its straightforward, "radio-friendly" take on the genre. The album is selling extraordinarily well, however, even outside of black metal circles.

Kjetil Vidar Haraldstad (aka FROST), was born in 28 June 1973 in Øyer,
Oppland, Norway, and is the drummer in the black metal band Satyricon.
He joined Satyricon temporarily for the recording of the demo "The Forest is My Throne", and he later joined the band fulltime. He is currently also a member of 1349, while his previous merits include Gorgoroth, Zyklon-B, Gehenna and Keep Of Kalessin.
He is currently an endorsee of Mapex drums, and Zildjian cymbals.
His drum-style is varied throughout different bands; as in 1349 and Satyricon he extensively uses blast beats, however his newer Satyricon work is more simplistic and mid-tempo.

Satyr (born Sigurd Wongraven on November 28, 1975) is the vocalist, lead and rhythm guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist for the Norwegian black metal band Satyricon. He was a founding member of Satyricon (although the band had been around for a short length of time as Eczema without him) and have so far released 6 albums 2 demos and a live DVD. He has also contributed to other bands such as Darkthrone, Eibon, Storm, Zyklon-B, Thorns, Black Diamond Brigade and Wongraven.
