Program 17 is a artist project from Detroit named Tony Cromie.Who specials in mysterious melody and beat making.All the melodies are made up almost entirely Vintage Analogue Synthesizers From the late 70's Early 80's.Such as Arps, Sequential Circuits,Moogs,Novations. most of the drum machines used on the programing are Vintage analog/Digital drum machines,Such as the Linn Drum and the drum tracks.
Tony Cromie's First experience to electronic Music was in the earliy 90's listing to Now worlds renown djs playing on the radio stations in Detroit.Like jeff mills.DJ Ritchie Rich.aka Ritchie Hawtin.As a young boy.A few years later going to Under ground Rave parties in Detroit Michigan in abandoned where house's such as the Packard plant,Under the Ambassador bridge,and other random places..
Tony Cromie started going to Techno events at the age of 14.In Detroit And around Detroit suburbs.Also he was in different bands. One band he was In Headlined the very First D.E.M.F Detroit.Electronic.Music festival.in 2000.Playing along side with acts such as Adult,Carl Craig,Ritchie Hawtin ANd MAgda,etc.Tony Cromie started his dj carrier in 1999.Part of his pay for playing the DEMF was Roger Linn's Linn Drum.It was my first real drum machine
After living In Detroit for so Long In 2002 he moved to Hawaii. To find new inspiration in not only music but Art.Living in Hawaii really made Inspiration for Program 17.Because it Made Program 17 into a Artist.Not making Music that was just Generic techno or house.It was more based on Beautiful Land Scape's,architecture Deisgn,and subsets.In Hawaii Tony Cromie had a guest residence at a club in Downtown China town,called indigo.
The first synthesizer Tony Cromie played with was a moog sonic six,Has neighbor owned MAtt Halpin in has home town Auburn hills,Michigan.TOny Chromie recalls I remeber playing with this thing.it was blue in a suit case,thinking,wow this is technology,this was people aiming for the future when designing this machine.ANd this is technology.
A lot of the influence's the artist makes for program 17 comes from Robots,Technology.May be because most the old Detroit Rave flyers had Gundam Japaneses animated robots.A lot of Japaneses robots had to inspaire TOny cromies work.In the 80's that was my favorite,Work such as Voltron,Robo Tech,So when people had old japans animated robots on flyers it all fit and made since .Also with Japanese Modern minimal architectural design,and artist such as Visual Artist Isamu Noguchi
