Dave-G is David Gilliss, all synth, drum and sequencer programming. If it makes noise, I'll tweak it!
Influences
At one time or another during my life (thus far), these are the artists/groups that have had a profound impact on me (in no particular order!):
The Orb, Aphex Twin, Cylob, Bochum Welt, Vidna Obmana, Oskar Sala, Global Communication, Pete Namlook, Brian Eno, X, Beaumont Hannant, David Moufang, Jonah Sharp, Oliver Lieb, Ralf Hildenbeutel, Tetsu Inoue, Everything But the Girl, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Boards of Canada, Mad Professor, Black Uhuru, King Tubby, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Bob Marley, The Moon Seven Times, Randy Rhodes, The Smiths, Pixies, The Police, REM, Red House Painters, Richard Barone, Roxy Music, Cowboy Junkies, The Stone Roses, Talking Heads, Spacemen 3, Air, Bola, Spyra, Benjamin Lew, Air Liquide, Hardfloor, Goldie, Ken Ishii, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Nick Drake, Omni Trio, Richie Hawtin, Skylab, Bill Evans Trio, Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, Big Bud, Bonobo, Peter Gabriel, Visit Venus, Blue 101 (where are you now?!)
Music is everywhere, we just have to learn how to listen.
When I was 6 years old my uncle gave me a snare drum and a set of sticks. At that age everything around you is already a drum, so I incorporated everyday objects to complete my "drum set". I still like the sound of "found objects" driving the rhythm of a song and try to add them whenever I can. At age 8, I got a trumpet, learned to read music and was forced to study the basics of music theory. At 13 I rebuilt, refinished and rewired an old electric guitar I had found. After some practice, I knocked around in various bands of the day playing everything from Hardcore to Fifties music and almost everything in between, all with little or no real success. It wasn't until college that I bought my first analog synth... a Roland Juno 60, then a Moog Source, then an Arp Solus, then an Arp 2600, then a Korg Poly 6, Casio CZ1, Roland SH101 and the list just kept going. Sadly, they were sold off long before we moved to the islands. The last one to go was a very old Arp String Ensemble. Island life is great for humans but hard on electronics. Down here virtual synths are the way to go. You get most of the sound of the "real" synth, in zero physical space and you don't have to watch them rust.
In the 90's I was active in the Baltimore / Washington D.C. electronic music scene as DJ Dave-G and briefly (1995-1996) as a record label owner. I have had the privilege of playing with such electronic luminaries as Matt Ducasse of Skylab, Alex Patterson of the Orb, Autechure, Jonah Sharp, Spooky, Terre Thaemlitz, LTJ Bukem, Damon Wild, Dubtribe and many more. Personal highlights include a massive 10 hour set at a Cloudwatch event playing the room opposite to Mixmaster Morris, playing a few tracks with Alex Patterson of the Orb at the HFStival, playing Fever and Bassrush and just about every Cloudwatch event (thanks LG) in Baltimore, the Dragonfly and Rumpus in D.C. and the now legendary micro-raves at Goucher College.
Lately, I've been writing music and doing an occasional voiceover for TV and radio commercials, recording authors and other professional voiceover artists for audio books and film. I have written music for commercials and short films.
I work in Pro Tools 7.4 for audio recording/editing, Logic Studio for midi programming/sequencing and Ableton Live 7 for sketching ideas.
I was recently asked about some of the synths that I used to make my music, so here goes:
Absynth
Albino
Alpha
Battery
Blue
EXSP24
EZDrummer
Massive
Orca
Structure
Tassman
Ultra Analog VA-1
ZebraCM

I totally forgot about your VW's. I have become quite the gear head. That TDI that Audi uses in the race cars is a build you probably will never see. Its the 10 cylinder version. It is available in the R8. Those deisels are torque monsters! I have the new GTI and I love it. Its quite peppy when compared to the older engines, but then again those engines have a ton of stuff available to make them faster. They are coming out with new stuff for my car all of the time. The problem is, that stuff costs a lot! I've had 2 Golf/GTI's, a Passat V6, and 2 Audi's. The last Audi I bought, I've tuned the shit out of. Almost 500 HP! Crazy man. Let me know when you are coming this way again. I'd love to catch up and have a beer. Have you talked to Jerry at all? I haven't talked with him since I moved out of the Towson house. By the way, I still have some of your CD's haha! Liquor Bike and something else. Remember the Liberty Horses? You can find them on Youtube. God bless youtube! -T

diggin' the new track, homie! has a very melancholy feel to it, and i love the sound. someone could argue that it has a BOC or AFX feel to it, but that's a good thing! keep working on that one for sure. sounds good!
