(Anders' List ..1:) the mood of the day, dreams, present day heroes, collaborators and friends in NYC, people who mean what they say, and are able to change their minds. King, Jimi Hendrix, Jack DeJohnette, Gary Peacock, John McLaughlin, Elvin Jones, Radka Toneff, Henry Kaiser, J.S. Bach, anything can be an influence; a comment, taste, bad taste, new experiences, rawness, delicacies, ladies etc.
Sounds Like
"We're gonna sound like a Dixieland-band after these motherfuckers" (Dave Liebman backstage)
"The music is fierce and bypasses the brain in order to strike directly at solar plexus."
- Martin Erlandsson/Hallands Nyheter
review quotes of our latest record: "...Janus gets more and more captivating by revealing ever-changing shades of depth and wonder, bewilderment and moods just like, well, life itself. A small monument of brutal honesty from a band with a future....the band creates a lot of excitement, and it should be tomorrow´s festival act for an open-minded audience."
- Jochem van Dijk/AAJ
"...Aorta sound as if they are storming out of the seventies before fusion became a predictable set of cliches. This quartet is heavy with strong electric guitar and sax interplay and inspired soloing. This is one powerful and tight quartet with some wonderful writing making it even more special and unpredictable. You just never know where you will end up, except for great surprises. Considering that it is only January, I know that this fine disc is bound to be one of the year's best under-recognized gems."

Anders Nilsson's AORTA was formed early this century in Malmö, Sweden. The band is rooted in Sweden although leader A.N. lives in Brooklyn, New York where he is working as a musician in various ensembles. The members of this band have all played together in various contexts for years so there is a rich, thick language, a strong, ever-expanding musical identity, and a daring, no holds barred attitude among the 4 players, whether playing freely or building upon worked-out charts/plans. We love to sculpt and improvise, employing our full spectrums when we play together, all with a sense of flow that gives life to the energy in the cracks between established musical worlds. The band creates intense, electrifying, genre-bending music filled with surprises which makes for the music being strong, generous, and dynamic, having lots of room for stylistic crossings and interesting musical ideas with all kinds of referential overtones, ranges, and levels. So... not mentioning any genres in this bio, but looking at our influences gives an indication of where it's all coming from.
