About me:

Andhow! is a collective of theater artists who develop and produce new work that plays with theatrical form, and creates new and fantastical worlds for the intelligent theater goer.   Andhow! Theater Company was officially incorporated in 2000. We have presented ten reading series, twelve main stage productions, five free outdoor plays for children, countless workshops, off-night performances, theatrical experiments, cabarets and benefits. We have received an OOBR Award, a Backstage STIMY Award, been nominated for a NYIT Award and had three of our plays published by NYTE and Broadway Play Publishing. Most recently, Laura Eason (Andhow! produced the world premiere of her play Area of Rescue) was named playwright of the year by Broadway Play Publishing, joining the ranks of Tony Kushner , A R Gurney, and Neil LaBute.   The press has lauded our productions: The New York Times says “Attention must be paid.” The Village Voice said we are “ambitious and provocative.” New York Magazine called us “Highbrow and Brilliant.” Time Out NY said we are a “perfect team…daringly innovative..the set and staging are some of the most gorgeous I have seen.” NYTheatre.com says “fine fine theater..Bravo! to everyone at Andhow!”   At the core of all of Andhow!’s work is our play development process, which includes the company early on in a play’s life as collaborators. Through our reading series and workshops we foster plays from a seed of an idea through to production.   We are a second home to an extended network of diverse actors ranging in age from 10-75 and we are committed to racially blind casting. Our audience base reflects our performer network, ethnically diverse and playing to all ages. Andhow!’s knack for penny-pinching and uniquely high production values creates new worlds where what is deemed impossible by most Off-Off Broadway companies becomes possible. Each year we aim to produce at least one main stage production of a new work that emerges from our play development program that embraces the Andhow! aesthetic, one or two of our reading series, "Dialogue", extended workshops of new plays, as well as a short run of a play for children and their families. The productions themselves are staffed by theatre professionals and a group of paid interns, participating in the Matthew H. Fisher Internship Program, for which we offer college credit. Interns participate in all aspects of production, but specialize in one. They are mentored by a theater professional who works in the specialty.   In 2008 we will be in residence at the Flea in September with a main-stage production of Linus and Alora by Andrew Irons. We will also present two annual reading series in October and February, as well as week-long workshops of three new plays as well as a new play for children by Margie Stokley in July in ART/NY’s Children’s Plays Summer series.
