My favorite Bible story is the account of Jacob. Jacob is one of the dirtiest, slimiest, most untrustworthy Bible characters that we refer to as a hero. He tricks his brother into giving away his birthright. He makes his blind and dying father believe that he is his older brother so that he can steal the firstborn's blessing. When he realizes this has made certain people (namely his brother) angry, he runs away and eventually tricks his uncle out of some livestock. Once all the drama seems to have settled down, God appears to Jacob in a dream, and says some pretty incredible things. Despite everything that Jacob did, God reassures Jacob that He will continue to stick to his promise of making Jacob into a great nation. No matter what Jacob did, God would not abandon his promise. In Genesis 35:11, God says something that I find really cool: "I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body." That last phrase really caught my eye. Out of Jacob's grimy body and duplicitous soul will come great kings like David, Solomon, and--eventually--Jesus.
If God is willing to bring the Savior of the world out of the body of a man like Jacob, isn't it remotely possible that he can do great things with our lives, too? This is the meaning behind my name: And Kings Will Come From Your Body.
