Sounds Like
“Saints and Relocations” is a solid effort by locals & Me. Sometimes this album has a Beatles take, a little Pet Sounds, a little Grateful Dead and a little Polyphonic Spree. Beautiful soundscapes, mixture of harmony, easy vocals. Head bopping, and a nice banjo mixes it up. Accessible, but goes in different directions. Give it a listen, and hopefully catch them live in the area some time. — Robert Fulton: On Tap Magazine (www.www.ontaponline.com)
& Me began in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the late nineties with no name and no direction. Jeff Johnston was writing songs and playing for Tulsa bands including The Guppie Salesmen, The Minifigs, Taming Enos and Ira. He continued to write while he was playing bass for Tulsa groups Aqueduct and Oklahoma, but for many reasons had to leave the midwest to see another part of the country. Heeding his friends' advice, he moved to the East coast, where he immediately began prodding his friend (former room mate and Tulsa native) Abe Ogden to play music with him. Jeff picked up some home studio equipment (mostly from Abe), and began work on his solo recordings.
A few years later, another Tulsa musician moved out via Austin, Michael Toburen. The three began working out Jeff's & Me songs for live perfomance and some material written by all three members which was then dubbed Steamer to Stockholm (www.myspace.com/steamertostockholm). Jeff released his first solo CD "Saints and Relocations" in October of 2007, and the three of them have been playing out since. In October of 2008, Steamer to Stockholm decided to get a drummer named Craig Michaels, which will change the dynamic of & Me's upcoming second album for the better.
Concrete Alchemy is a tour of 15 visual artists visiting five major urban centers on the East Coast. It is the first tour that creatively combines gallery shows, public panel discussions and numerous murals to present the artists’ unique approach to public arts.
Friday, May 23rd, 2008 – National Harbor, MD The tour will officially end with a gallery exhibit opening at Art Whino on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 6 pm to midnight. The audience will have chance to view artists’ recently finished canvases and a slideshow of photographs from the previous days of the tour.
Then Join Art Whino for an OUT OF THIS WORLD experience as we celebrate Yuri’s Night, a World Space Party commemorating Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, and the first human space flight. So dress yourself in your best celestial attire (prizes awarded); come see an art exhibition of other-worldly magnitude, and enjoy a Vodka of space themed libations by Stoli Vodka. Cosmic burlesque performances featuring Miss Saturn, spaced out Russian-style post-punk music by Mr. Moccasin, spacey DJ sets, and more will temporarily elevate you from your daily earthly existence.
